Great location

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Oct 24, 2024
Great location but a bit overpriced. We stayed there for 2 nights and cleaning was offered at 2pm when we wanted to have a rest from our morning activities. Rooms are a bit basic, facilities are even more basic. Pool is adequate but nothing to write home about and I could not find the gym, doesit exist?

We ordered an entree and meals, everything came out at once. This really impacts your ability to enjoy your dining experience as you are trying to consume both before they go cold!

I know I ruin a good steak by asking for well done. I get that. Mine was medium rare. At $48 for a steak with 3 pieces of broccolini and some chips I do appreciate it being cooked as I requested.

Rooms were excellent though and the position is great for accessing the touristy things.

Room tip: Order your meals separately, order your entree,, wait your 20 mins and then order your main!

Dear BoldonHill,

Thank you for your feedback. We're glad to hear you enjoyed the rooms and location, but we’re sorry your dining experience didn’t meet expectations. Your concern about the timing of the dishes and the steak not being cooked as requested is noted, and we’ll address this with our kitchen team to ensure better service in the future.

We hope to welcome you back to our hotel soon.

Sincerely,
Esplanade Front Office Team

Lovely Colonial style hotel friendly staff and good food.
The location is perfect, close to everything without being in the centre.
Although the pools are a little dated and gym not worth the effort, Everything else is well appointed and in keeping with the style of the period.

Room tip: Parking close by but not cheap.

The room was amazing, the hotel did though feel like they had the heater on which wasn't nice given that I was there for the furry convention WAFF. The air-conditioning in my room also was a bit of a pain as it wouldn't work if it was too cold which made it hard with the heat

This hotel has an excellent location . Otherwise it is hard to be positive and constructive about the rooms and service levels. The front bar is well located and the service there is satisfactory and friendly. The young man at concierge during my stay was great and sympathetic to guest's needs. The rooms are generally old, tired and very poorly furnished. The bed mattresses are shockingly soft and well worn, and will do you no good if you have back problems of even a minor kind. The room walls are thin--so thin that you can hear family arguments and televisions blaring in other rooms. Never arrive before 2pm because you will inevitably get the message that they will be placing you in a queue for cleaning the room after a past guest has left. When you ask, "how long is the queue?" you get a blank look. Ask "where am I in the queue?" you will get short shrift. When you come back at 2pm there is a massive queue at reception waiting in line to get into your room. When I was checking out early on my second night of a 2 night stay at 9pm in the evening I asked in advance for the hotel reception too book a taxi for me at that time to take me to the airport, and received a "we don't normally do that for guests" and ''there is no need to book a taxi because there are plenty of them close to the hotel at all times". But that was not the case at 9pm! A taxi was called at that time and did not arrive after waiting 20mins---it was from the pure kindness of one staff member at hotel reception who noticed my distress ( I have forgotten his name unfortunately, but he had just arrived to work there having come from Queensland) who used his initiative and allowed me to use his Uber driver who arrived within minutes. That staff member should be promoted immediately. And his first job would be to clean up the sloppy, "couldn't care less attitude of the reception service too. Luckily I arrived at the airport in then nick of time for my flight. Overall, this is a low standard hotel that needs urgent refurbishing. Don't stay there if you value comfortable rooms and a good night's sleep. And go out for breakfast and dinner if you can.

Dear Voyage595913,

Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback on your recent stay at the Esplanade Hotel. While we are pleased that you found our location convenient and appreciated the service from our front bar and concierge team, we are truly sorry to hear about the various issues you encountered with your room, check-in experience, and overall service.

We sincerely apologise for the inconveniences you faced with the room’s condition, specifically the mattress comfort and soundproofing, as well as the delayed check-in process. We understand how frustrating it must have been, especially given your schedule and need for a timely airport transfer. Your experience with the taxi arrangement is not reflective of our usual standards, and we are grateful that our new team member was able to assist you during that stressful moment. We will certainly recognise him for his exceptional customer service.

Please know that we take all feedback seriously, and your comments will be passed along to both our management team and housekeeping department. We are continuously working on improving our facilities and services, and your observations about the room conditions and service levels will help us address these areas in need of attention.

We hope that you might consider giving us another opportunity to provide you with the high-quality experience that you should expect from the Esplanade Hotel.

Sincerely,

Esplanade Front Office Team

A bit overpriced for the rooms in my opinion. We stayed one night and it done the job but we probably wouldn’t stay here again. We didn’t eat so can’t vouch for the food. I think for $250 a night you could find a nicer place to stay. Hotel staff were great though cannot fault them.
