Review of Ninth Fort

Pretty spectacular place, but the exhibitions were centered too much on single person's histories instead of the overall view of the story and its facts. It was pretty much room after room after room with another 20 people and a few sentences of their lives.
Furthermore not all of the exhibition is translated in English which takes away a lot of the full picture.
Still a place worth to pay a visit.
Reached by bus 35 then a little short walk.

I found this a very moving experience, a monument dedicated to all who were massacred by Occupation forces, What is shocking is how recently some of this occurred, Lithuania has suffered throughout history, but the atrocities committed by Nazis and KGB are so recent they make a huge impact.

This place is so special for it's history. And the fort - huge, impressive and amazing!
But I must say that Trip Advisor leads travellers to the wrong side, not the parking by the fort.

We got here in a taxi who we found through the Lithuanian uber like app. This app allowed us to find a taxi driver for quite a good price. He even came back to pick us up!

The fort itself is very interesting and quite impressive. Inside museum there is plenty of history to learn about. If you're in Kaunas this is a must see.

You also get the chance to see the conditions that the prisoners lived in. It really is eye opening. The history behind this site is fascinating and they lay out the displays very well.

We are so glad to have visited this place.

If you have any interest in history, or even if you don't. This is a must visit. We didn't take a guided tour, something I wish we did, but a lot of information is available in English anyway. You'll be fine even if you don't know anything about the fort, or it's history before hand.

The trip here by bus isn't very straight forward. If you don't know the way, the easiest is probably to take a taxi. We took bus 31 to Mega shopping center and walked from there. It's quite easy if you don't get lost along the way :) Ask someone before you start walking.
