This place is so special for it's history. And the fort - huge, impressive and amazing!
But I must say that Trip Advisor leads travellers to the wrong side, not the parking by the fort.

We got here in a taxi who we found through the Lithuanian uber like app. This app allowed us to find a taxi driver for quite a good price. He even came back to pick us up!

The fort itself is very interesting and quite impressive. Inside museum there is plenty of history to learn about. If you're in Kaunas this is a must see.

You also get the chance to see the conditions that the prisoners lived in. It really is eye opening. The history behind this site is fascinating and they lay out the displays very well.

We are so glad to have visited this place.

If you have any interest in history, or even if you don't. This is a must visit. We didn't take a guided tour, something I wish we did, but a lot of information is available in English anyway. You'll be fine even if you don't know anything about the fort, or it's history before hand.

The trip here by bus isn't very straight forward. If you don't know the way, the easiest is probably to take a taxi. We took bus 31 to Mega shopping center and walked from there. It's quite easy if you don't get lost along the way :) Ask someone before you start walking.

Until visiting Lithuania, we knew little of its history. Ninth Fort is an incredible place to visit to learn of the horrors the citizens have endured. Having only two hours to spend there didn’t really give us enough time to look at all of the displays in the various rooms. Although it’s a bit out of the way, it's worth a visit. Although we didn't have a guide for the Fort, our driver was able to give us much of its history, which was helpful when going through the museum. It's a very moving place.

We unfortunately visited the fort on a Monday and the Museum wasn't open. But we were able to wander all around the grounds and saw several underground cells, moats, gas chamber vents, memorials to the 50000 dead and a huge sculpture. We are so pleased we went because we git a real sense of what went on there. Most of the signs etc were also in English, which helped! We took a bus from the bus station which was less than €1 each and the bus stopped right next to the fort. Well worth a visit.
