It is th only castla build by one man, and the family still owns and lives there. It is a must visit in Szekesfehervar.

It is a most peculiar structure, a real curiosity of the city. The special architectural feature of the castle is that it is made of concrete. The 20th century knights’ castle was constructed by architect and sculptor Jenő Bory over a period of 36 years as a symbol of his eternal love for his wife. In 1923, the architect and sculptor Jenő Bory started to build a castle on an artificial hill in the suburb of Öreghegy, still rural and covered with vineyards in the interwar period. He built the rambling castle in the historicist style for his wife, the painter Ilona Komocsin (1885-1974).

Amazing what this guy has done - building a castle from concrete by himself !! Definitely worth a detour.

If you are in Székesfehérvár, I recommend you to see this castle as well. It is a beautiful castle but quite small, so we did not spend a lot of time there. The ticket price is not expensive, although I did not feel that they control if everybody bought the ticket or not. If you are not local it is the best to go there by taxi because the it is hard to get there by public transportation.

As part of a day tour of the Balaton lake area we took in the great old capital town of Szekesfehervar. Knowing my interest in castles our driver (we hired a car and you need one to access it) drove us to Bory Castle. However, it turned out to be a modern fairytale place with a dragon as a keeper. We lasted about 5 minutes before we walked out.
