The Kis Helikon is in Heviz a thermal bath center west end of Balaton Lake in Hungary. The building was built in the 1930's and survived WWII. It became a communist property after the war and suffered from lack of upkeep. After the political changes in Hungary it was sold and bought by an individual who has brought it back to it's very nice current condition. It is a multi story stone build structure with a garden and a small wellness section on the first floor. I think typical reservation comes with a free breakfast and wi-fi. It is about a 8-10 minute walk to the indoor/outdoor thermal bath frequented by Germans and Russians tourists. Short distance away from city of Keszthely.

Room Tip: If at all possible don't get the top floor as it is a remodeled attic stile so the sides of the walls angle in.

We have spent here the Easter Holidays. It's operated by a new company since approx big of 2015. The staff were very kind, but the rooms should have some renovation. Old, worn, oldshool carpets. The television is min 15 years old w weak tv signal. remote works hard.
The breakfast was quite ok, but on the first day there was not any scrambled eggs or omlette.
They have a small wellness corner w some fitness equipment and a jacuzzi.
The lake and the downtown is about 5-10 min walk.

You won't be disappointed if you don't have high expectations!

Room Tip: ask room on the ground floor (2-3-4) and you can use the hotel's wi-fi in the room. Otherwise it can be used only in the lobby

Nice hotel with character and excellent service.
Stayed with our six month twins and the staff very helpful and friendly.
The room was spacious enough even with the two baby beds to move around.
Bathroom was clean, a bit used though.
15 minutes walk from town center, but a quiet neighbourhood with restaurants across the street.

We stayed for 5 days in July 2013 with my wife. The hotel is very cozy, a bit quaint but in a good way, apparently family-run. The decorations are arguably a bit overdone but the overall ambiance is still very decent. We had a room on the ground floor with a terrace onto the garden - perfect for sipping a glass of wine after dinner. The room was spacious enough with all the amenities you need. Everything was clean, daily room service was very decent as well. The staff at the reception was very friendly, speaking decent German (can't tell about their English).

Even though it was around 30 degrees throughout our stay the room never was hot to the point that we would want to pay for the extra air conditioning (it looked like the rooms on the ground floor did not have any anyway). Maybe the other reviewers mentioning the A/C surcharge had issues with rooms on the upper floors which may indeed be hotter.

As regards catering. Breakfasts were OK - not overabundant but just fine, comparable to what you can get in most hotels (maybe I just missed some pastries to go with the morning coffee). Dinners were excellent - typically two alternatives for a set 3-course dinner the quality of which was on par or even better than the fare you can get in the three odd restaurants to be found right in the vicinity of the hotel. If you get dinners in a package with the price of accommodation like we did, it's great value.

Wellness zone is very small but functional - it's got a big jacuzzi that can easily accommodate 4 people and a sauna. There are just 18 rooms in the hotel so most of the time there would be just the two of us.

The bottom line - I can recommend this hotel to anyone, it's not the best one I've ever been too but the overall ambiance of a small, quaint, clean family-run hotel somehow grows on you. I very much enjoyed the stay there and would happily return.

My parents stayed here for a couple of nights. They really liked the service, the food was very good as well, but they were hugely disappointed that in a 4* Hotel they had to pay extra (about €13.00 / DAY) for the Air Conditioning to be switched on in the room. It was extremely hot during their stay, over 30 degrees! Very disappointing. I work in a 5* Resort and traveled around the World myself and never came across a 4* property where there was an extra charge for this service.
