Three friends having Sunday lunch - one of us had the pie of the day, one the roast turkey lunch and the other the roast beef lunch. The puddings we had were- Jam roly poly and the cheesecake of the day - all dishes were excellent and we will definitely go back. One of your reviewers complained that the service wasn't 'with a smile' ....there was only a slight smile for us but the service was efficient. Perhaps the staff will learn to smile more if they get encouragement from grateful customers .

The food was mediocre; starter haloumi salad was basic. The main pie of the day was chicken, gammon and Cumberland sausage, shades of previous leftovers covered with a jus-roll pastry lid. I had to chose between chips or veg; I chose chips and consequently was served with a beige meal, not even a spoonful of peas. I had to ask for gravy. It was reasonable pub grub, but not pub grub prices! We paid £5 extra for 2 sausages for the dog, which were rubbery and cold, the dog tried to chew them and gave up; first time he's ever refused a sausage 😂. The service was ok, but a few more smiles would have been in order from our waitress. We asked for a jug of water to accompany our wine, but it never arrived. We paid £75 for the experience which has inspired me to write this review, had it been £40/50, I would have been ok with that. But on the whole, overpriced and disappointing.

This was our third visit in twelve months, which speaks for itself

Firstly it is essential to book as it is so popular

From the moment you arrive until you leave you will receive excellent customer service.

There is usually a jolly and lively crowd at the bar adding to the atmosphere

We treated some neighbours to Sunday lunch, a choice of two or three courses

My wife and I went for the three and our friends the two.

I had the garlic mushrooms for starter, roast beef for main and treacle pudding all of which was superb and suitably washed down with Timothy Taylor's Landlord

Looking across at the massive fish and chips three courses might have been a struggle !!!

For the quality, choice and portion size I we all thought it was great value and best in the locality

Staying at a local spa hotel, we decided to eat elsewhere as a wedding was in full swing and we didn't want to intrude. We went to the Chevin Inn, but were not too hopeful as the car park was full and it was very busy when we went in. A waitress immediately asked us if she could help but that she thought they were fully booked but went to check with the manager. He managed to find us a table which was not reserved for another hour, which suited us fine, and was so friendly and helpful. As it was Sunday I opted for the roast dinner, and chose lamb which was delicious. They do a 2 course deal on a Sunday so I felt obliged to have a sweet (!) and opted for the chocolate brownie which was probably the best I've ever tasted. Gorgeous. We didn't feel rushed, all the staff were friendly and the food was excellent. It was such a pleasant change to have such great service at a busy time and we will definitely be going back again - but will probably book next time. An absolute treat.
