Description: The Red Lion is nestled in the peaceful, idyllic village of East Haddon, surrounded by picturesque Northamptonshire countryside, just a few miles from Northampton. We are handily placed with ready access and egress from the major Motorway routes M1, M6, A14 & A1 being all within easy reach. Our warm and cosy pub boasts an intimate lounge area, large dining room & manicured gardens making it a great place either as a hideaway from the cold winter’s weather or somewhere to quietly luxuriate in the warm glow of a Summer's day.

The Red Lion has been one of our favourites in Northamptonshire over the years, and not having visited for some time, we were looking forward to our visit. We were severely disappointed.
The menu choices were poor, and the food average when it eventually came, particularly the chips accompanying the battered fish, and a tasteless sponge and thin sauce in the sticky toffee pudding. For somewhere that had been renowned as a good class restaurant, this was disappointing.
We were kept five minutes to be seated, but after that service was good.
On the plus side, there has been a recent redecoration, and the Red Lion is a beautiful venue with its stone and thatch.
I am sorry to say we won’t be back.

Went on a Thursday night in january and was pleasant to see plenty of people there. Greated very warmly and throughout the complete meal the service was impeccable and surrounding near perfect.

The starters we had smoked salmon which didn't seem particularly food quality with a poor texture and garishing didn't really work very well either.
Scotch egg was cooked very nicely but the sausage meat had little seasoning.

Mains my mother had a very disappointing chicken Caesar salad, poor quality parmesan, bland sauce and scraggly chicken. Pork belly was nicely presented, but the fat was not crackled, just, or we'll gravy was so strong it had a burnt flavour and douphoise potatoes although excellent texture had an odd flavour.

On the positive side, the bean were excellent, the fish cakes had no complaints nor did the soup.

But really this is not the example of professionally cooked food you would expect from a prestigious looking establishment.

If we had not been treated by an elderly relative we would have been making this know at the time.

Please employee a professional chef to guide your sous's!

Arrived at the good sized car park, initially the room I was directed into was quiet, although it rapidly filled to 75% capacity.
Staff were attentive and asked throughout the meal if everything was ok.
Menu isa reasonable selection ifa little formulaic.
Starter was a chicken liver parfait with toast and the sweetest fruit chutney I have ever tasted (I like sweet flavours, but that was a bit too far).
Main was a ribeye cookedexactly how I asked, a little too much connective tissue but not too bad. Ok trimminings of tomato mushroom and green leaves.
Dessert as a pavlova with Kiwi, Mango and cream. My only complaint being that the base of the pavlova wasn’t easy to cut.Toilets clean and well presented.
Staff helpful and engaged.
Interesting eye catching decor. Steak was more a mid range pub steak house standard.

We go here on a fairly regular basis, last time was only about a month ago, and we always, always, have an excellent meal, the food is amazing, proper home cooked restaurant food, great staff, lovely old building, cannot fault a single thing about this place, they are great with children and we also take our guide dog with us who is always welcomed.
I highly reccomend the mini hog roast, sticky ribs, chicken wings, scotch eggs, tempura prawns, donuts, churros, chocolate orange tart
Basically everything on the menu is amazing
