Description: The Venissa Estate is situated on the island of Mazzorbo, which together with Torcello and Burano, forms an archipelago of nature, colours, art and flavours at the heart of Native Venice. In front of the lagoon, under the shelter of the portico looking out on to the vineyard is the Osteria Contemporanea. To eat, the reinterpretation of the recipes of the ladies of Burano made with the harvest of our gardens and the catch of the day. To drink, a selection of the best wines of the Tri-Veneto region. To see, the colors of the lagoon and the vineyard that is reborn in springtime.

Great great rivisited venetian food, in an informal but cosy place and atmosphere! Start with an aperitif on the canal and then dinner in the internal garden.

Dear Alessandra,
thank you for this review.

It's always a pleasure to read the enthusiastic review from our guests. We're happy that you had a fantastic complete experience at our venue: the aperitiv viewing the quite Mazzorbo canal and the dinner in the garden inside the walled vineyard. The Osteria Contemporanea's cuisine is based on the traditional lagoon dishes carefully re-interpreted by the chefs and accompagnied by an interesting wine list.

We wish you a wonderful day and hope to see you again soon.

The lovely family that runs Venice’s only wine resort make sure all their guests are treated with warmth and professionalism. Our tour of the vineyards and 5 course wine paired tasting lunch was a work of art - a highlight of our Eat and Drink Like a Northern Italian Tour!

We had the chef’s choice for dinner. Which meant you left your choice for each course in the hands of the chef. Each course was paired with wine. This was our first night in Italy and boy was it the right choice for us. We sampled foods we would have never ordered on our own (like the sardines) which were beautifully paired with wines. Each course the chef came out and described what we were about to eat and why the wine was paired with the food. It was a learning as well as a tasting experience.

Mazzorbo is one of those places we never fail to visit when in Venice. We had read recently that a new hotel had opened and were curious to visit. Although we love fine cuisine, we often go for the osteria type of food which especially in Italy is very rewarding. As Venissa proposed an osteria too, we chose this option - it was, of course, cheaper too. When we arrived from the vaporetto, we first had a walk in the amazing premises of the resort with its vines and vegetable garden. The osteria initially somehow disappointed us with its austere design esthetics. But gently-gently it won us over. We were delighted to be having dinner together with a family of swallows that were chirping happily over our heads. The food was really exquisite, the chef is a master in the use of (very good quality) salt, the taste was perfectly balanced. Especially our corvina fish was flawlessly cooked, a real delight. We tasted a large spectrum of unknown to us white wine varieties; and we enjoyed discussing with the waiter about them. If you want rare value for money, together with an ambience of peace not easily found in Venice, don’t fail to come here. One thing: late at night mosquitoes inevitably join the party - make sure you take the necessary measures.
One of the photos shows the mosquito-proof restaurant; the osteria, on the other hand, offers you the perfume of lavender!

Creative and delicious cuisine. Bread was great, crusty, whole grain, with a touch of nutty sweetness.
