Nice resort... A little dated

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Dec 24, 2014via mobile
This is an older hyatt property. The beach is beautiful and feels like a private location. The grounds are well cared for and pool is clean and nice. The rooms a bit outdated but not bad. The main hotel next door is closed down and they have done everything possible to close it off. The staff is amazingly kind and helpful. Location is great.

Our two bedroom timeshare was clean and comfortable. It had a larger bedroom with a king bed, a jacuzzi, and a second smaller bedroom with an attached bathroom. Both had balconies and ocean views. Once you closed the outer door you had a large suite like experience.

Admittedly the furnishings can be updated. But that's a trifling negative. The beach is really very good, it was not crowded, had fairly decent lounges. The swimming pool is really very good and is quite large.

The Oceanside restaurant was very good: I had a really nice pan fried sea bass, my wife had a great skirt steak with sautéed onions and mushrooms. The prices were reasonable and the drinks were happy hour priced all day long.

What's not to like? If you want to go to a relaxing beach resort, this is it.

Yes, the rooms are a tad dated, but clean. The friendly staff pushed my review into the 5 star range. The view of the ocean and pool were fantastic from our 7th floor apartment. We had a super Thanksgiving there. The pool and grounds were well kept. Sigfredo's driving service made our night time bioluminescent lagoon and lighthouse tour and airport runs relaxing. We highly recommend that you have Liz set you up as driving in Puerto Rico can be a challenge. A small island that is very populated with an unbelievable amount of cars makes me happy to have an experienced person at the wheel. Food options on property and nearby are good to excellent. We ate at the poolside bar with a 3 and 6 yr. old at least once a day and everyone was satisfied. We had a car so also enjoyed the restaurant at the Ritz Carleton property and the Chop House in Dorado. We will return and wish to visit San Juan. This was a good 40 min. drive away. With construction and a possible transportation strike clogging the roadways, not to mention young children, we did not make the drive.

Room tip: I imagine the floors from 5th to the 8th have the better views. We were on the beach and in the pool so often that the view was not essential, but they are super.

The property is a bit dated, but clean. the grounds are very well kept. We had a two bedroom on an upper floor (always try to get at least the sixth floor) with a beautiful view of the ocean. The pool was beautiful and well maintained. the two were very nice and open all day and night. The restaurant was open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the food was good, but you need a car to go out and explore other options as well. The spa was very nice. Great massage and pedicure. The downside was that we were without hot water for two days. The staff was very nice and worked very hard to get it back on which they were able to do. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay there. I hope they will invest in updating the property a bit but it won't stop me from visiting there again. About 40 minutes away from San Juan, but I found that the traffic was not so bad.

Room tip: Be sure to rent a car. You will need one.

I'm giving this resort five stars, and maybe that is just a little generous. We had a wonderful time here. There were no negatives. The furnishings may be a little dated but everything was clean and in good working condition. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The beach and pool areas are great. It is a very relaxed and laid-back atmosphere, a nice quiet place. I never ate in the restaurant, which is really just an area next to the bar that is screened in to keep the birds out. They have a simple menu with basic breakfast, lunch and dinner choices. If the birds see you have food, you will immediately be surrounded by a flock of blackbirds and a dove or two. But they are cute and not aggressive. As for food choices, there are many options nearby if you want to eat out. There are ample stores for shopping too. They have a CVS and a Walgreens right next to each other, go figure. Go for an upper floor for the best view. Each door from the outside leads to two units and there is a washer-dryer between them. We had a one bedroom that was spacious enough and had a balcony. The closed property next door is not a problem at all. We used the spa and enjoyed that very much. The Ritz-Carlton is #1 here on Trip Advisor but the rooms cost ten times as much. They really do.

We thought this was one of the nicest resorts we have stayed at. We had a two bedroom apartment over looking the palm trees and the ocean. The resort shows a little wear but nothing took away from the enjoyment we had. The restaurant was better than any of the others that we tried on the island. Try the flank steak or the Mahi Mahi. The beach was in it's own beautiful cove. The swimming pool is huge. The hot tub was clean and hot. The staff was friendly and treated us really well. We will always remember this is one of our favorite resort destinations.
