“Camping @ Leaning Marri”
Review of Yeagarup Dunes

Stayed only a few nights at Leaning Marri campground, which is right at the end of Ritter Road at the entrance to Yeagarup Dunes.

While the flies (during the morning and evening) were a bit anti-social, the campground was tranquil and seemed well looked after. The long-drop toilets were fine- I’ve seen a heck of a lot worse- and the pitches were a good size, with parking for two vehicles per pitch. There’s only a few pitches available there- it’s not a big campground- so I’d imagine you’d have to get there really early during long weekends. There’s camping nearby at Drafty’s (Hearbreak Trail) if it’s full up. There is space for group camping too, by the way.

As a base for exploring Yeagarup Dunes, it can’t be bettered and is the perfect base for 4WDing or for exploring Warren Forest. Pemberton is a short drive away.

You can get to the campground by 2WD but you can’t explore the dunes themselves unless you have a 4WD and are reasonably experienced.

Pretty sure I’ll be back there at some point!

Our family took a 4x4wd tour and the dunes with their amazing size and views were the highlight of it.

Gorgeous, soft (very soft) white sand dunes. Their leading edge is slowly swallowing up the trees, and will (eventually) fill in Yeagarup lake, I suspect. In the meanwhile, the views from the dunes to the sea are great, and it's a fascinating place to drive. Make sure your tyre pressures are low (we ended up at 12psi)!

We took the half day tour with the Beach and Forest Adventure and it was spectacular. Driving through a forest of old growth trees with an understorey of wildflowers before coming across the amazing Yeagarup dunes. Then on through heathland before dropping down on to the beach. Eye achingly stunning with the Warren River meandering out into the ocean. Could have stayed all day just listening to the waves rolling in and beach north and south for kilometres. Graeme, our driver really made the trip as he knows about the history, the wildflowers and very patient!

Great family day out with good tracks running through the forest and over the dunes, through to the Warren River mouth on the beach.
