Definately not 4 star

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Mar 28, 2023
I am giving this hotel an average rating because there are some very good points about the hotel. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment.

The good: Great location, spacious rooms, massive spa bath fits two people easily. Comfy beds. 2 TV's. 2 Air con units. Very quiet despite being next to the freeway. Well fitted out with everything you need. Good amenities on site eg heated pool, sauna, secure parking.

The bad: First up got double charged for my room as I had already paid through Booking.com.
Secondly after about 1 hour the main aircon which is basically in the middle of the room started leaking water all over the floor, we put a rubbish bucket under it and called the management.
Some guy came up and told us that there was nothing he could do because it was a Saturday and the hotel was fully booked. He admitted that it was a known problem.
Unfortunately we had to put up with it and the leak changed ends a couple of times and thwarted our attempts to catch all the water.

Also the level of cleanliness leaved a lot to be desired. This is not a 4 star hotel. There were crumbs all over the stove top from the previous tenants, rips in the curtains and some stains on the furniture, and the general condition of fixtures was poor for example the silicon around the basin in the bathroom was loose and falling out. General cleanliness was also poor.
Probably would not stay again.

The location was quite good for our purposes. Building and furnishings were in good condition, but very dated - felt like they belonged in the eighties (ashtray in the foyer).
Service was good, rooms were very clean, beds were comfortable/
Was good to have a suite.

We have been commuting to Perth from the South West for appointments since moving from Fremantle so know our way around and what is good value in the area and the Pagoda in Como ticks all the boxes for us.
The resort is tastfully decorated in oriental style with big well equipped and clean rooms.
Although close to the freeway it is very quite due to double grazed windows.
The resort is well equipped with a bar and restaurant as well as an outdoor pool and a gym.
Highly recommended from me!

We stayed for 3 weeks in February when we were visiting family. Como is a really pleasant part of Perth with views across the Canning and Swan rivers. Staff were really friendly and professional. The pool is small but really pleasant with the planting around it. During the week it is really quiet - at the weekend you often get families with kids which fills up the pool a bit but most we really well behaved. The food was good. Handy for the city and other attractions of Perth. Nearby shops and restaurants (+ zoo) within walking distance.

Room tip: Choose a room with a balcony overlooking the pool.

Rating given only for the food, which was well prepared, tasty and very nicely presented.

From initial booking to service of dessert no-one seemed to know what their role was or what they should be doing.

I stayed here for a week and the following is what i would like to say:

LOCATION:

the place where this hotel is situated is great close to city next to it theres a park and bridge good for kids and a walk.

PARKING:

The hotel has its own parking spaces and its $15 Aud per night for using their parking. However, i never opted for this option i would park opposite the aged care on the left side which was quite alright.

HOTEL ROOM:

The rooms looked very dusty old "BORING" tired they definitely need to refurbish their rooms. It reminded of what hotels in 1990s looked like. Couches weren't as clean as they looked in the pics. The two bedroomed apartment had all the amenities everything that one requires in an average apartment. However the dishwasher had this horrible AWWFUL SMELL LIKE A DEAD RAT. the whole time we stayed there that smell was very much present. Their carpets also looked very dirty.
The pillows were soooo uncomfortable we struggled the whole time. The next day my parents also had a neck pain. The pillows very flat. The washing machine/dryer we had was so massive almost taking up even space of the toilet like where is one supposed to sit with their legs facing opposite? to do their business ? ridiculous idea and planning i must say whoever thought of doing that.

RECEPTION:

The reception is alright. However upon check in i realized the hotel already had existing issues with a guest who kept yelling and screaming away trying to get her rissue sorted bitterly complaining how the hotel had been unfair to her as she had driven all the way from Busselton. anyways i wasted at least 25minutes after a tiring flight in the evening to have somebody attend to me. The staff was polite to the guest. but the first impression was not good at all for me.
During my stay i came across two more guests also who were upset and were just battling out with the front desk but then again i had to wait once again while listening to all their tantrums to get attended to. One even started crying while i was in queue there i came across at least three guests very unhappy.

BREAKFAST:

I would say for the price one pays for the breakfast was definitely a WASTE OF MONEY one of the worst I've ever had. Even the Quality Inn and other 3 Star MOTEL INN's average hotels do a FAR BETTER breakfast much politer chef too than these people do they had probably two types of bread, four types of juices, four very small bowls of cut fruit and basics one expects out of brekky . no lattes special coffees all come at an extra charge ontop of what you pay for.
I would strictly warn people who eat "HALAAL AND KOSHER MEALS" Please be advised they don't consider guest requests poor variety of their selections... i had brekky the first day it was okayish very average had some scrambled egg and bread.
The second day they had eggs and chorizo, pork sausages etc etc i still remember putting four small pieces of cut fruits and a slice of bread on my plate feeling extremely disappointed asking the hotel waitress if the chef would be able to do some omelets or fried eggs for me & my family? she came back and told me they would charge me an extra 5aud i than asked her what am supposed to eat you only have pork there? how is it fair when i have paid for breakfast why would i have to pay extra? she told me she would talk to the manager. she came back and told me they refused.
I went to reception and explained my issue to the two lovely ladies who were there requesting them to cancel my brekky for the next five days of my stay and to refund me my money back as I could HAPPILY go to even a cafe not too far from the hotel down the road to pay half the price and get a decent coffee and eggs.
i was very upset and went back to the breakfast table having hardly eaten anything? The hotel was refusing to refund me my money claiming i had done a third-party booking. I had to battel it out with expedia and them eventually getting something back after trying to explain they kept saying it's a religious issue like common what if they had somebody allergic to pork? they must be able to cater for other people too staying there have a selection variety. Any average hotel would still make an egg and give it to you.
Here the Mnaager kept telling me this is all it is and that exactly how it's going to be the coming days. I mean and initially they were pretty reluctant to give my refund but i did manage to get at least something back. I would suggest please just go pay even a cafe they will make a decent brekky and latte for you. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

SWIMMING: The swimming pool was clean and presentable. they had a gym and a sauna close to it too.

LIFTS: the lifts are PRETTY SLOW and always have this funny smell which most guests also noticed even made faces coming in and out some even laughed and talked about how old and tired everything looked around the hotel how deceiving some of the pics looked at the time of booking.

I would Suggest they better apartments some even few dollars cheaper like some of the Quest serviced apartments way much better in every way. The Quest on mounts bay road is much cheaper than this hotel very clean better beds and everything very well presented i went to check it out also in a good location too.
I would NEVER stay in this Hotel ever again. I feel the hotel doesn't care much about their guests comfort at all. it's all about making money for them.

This Hotel need to consider a SERIOUS renovation from their dirty old boring smelly carpets in the corridor's walkways and bedrooms, beds, Lounges, pillows etc if they want to keep up with the current tourism market as they are very many other BETTER options out there to offer guests better quality than what this place has to offer.
