What a gem of a place! We had lunch outside, waterside -- no rush, great food, great service (which so rarely happens when you're across the road at a harborside table). We had a really good lunch, drinks, dessert and thoroughly enjoyed everything about both our server, the food and the location. Highly recommend the experience.

We had a wonderful birthday dinner for 8 people which I had organised from the UK. The Italian inspired food was super, the wine was lovely and the service was fantastic. We would definitely recommend The Gables for any meal. It exceeded our expectations. The location is beautiful too, right on the waterfront. If you're in Russell, its well worth a visit, in my opinion.

We had an amazing outside table close to the water on a perfect summers evening. So a pretty good start! House made pasta was silky and the lamb ragout delicious. Friendly service and an excellent choice in Russell.

The Gables has very good food. However, our entrees, shared dishes and mains were all served simultaneously. As a consequence, we had to work our way through dishes crowded together on a small table, and the meal was over too soon. More attention to the guest experience would have been welcome.

We visited this restaurant twice in our 4 day visit. Fantastic food. The market fish, flounder, was delicious and beautifully prepared and cooked. Had it twice!
Vongole also fantastic. We have been travelling around NZ for a month now and this is by far the best meal we have had!
