I would much prefer to have the restaurant when staying here but the cafe is pretty good as well. Excellent for lunch or a light tea, lovely friendly and polite staff whom make you feel very welcome. We wanted a light tea with soup and a toastie perfect.

After arriving in Ballarat via train one cold, raining evening (who'd have ever guessed in winter!), we sought shelter and sustenance at the nearby Provincial Hotel. For decades the grand building had lay derelict, but a recent renovation has transformed it into a chic hotel and French inspired restaurant.

We were dining with our two young children, so weren't sure that the upmarket restaurant would be suitable for them, however our fears were immediately allayed when they were presented with crayons and advised they could draw on the paper tablecloths. The friendly, professional service was on display by all staff members we spoke to.

The kids meals were excellence, as were the mains that we ordered. I chose a stake, which came with a sprig of broccolini, Bearnaise sauce, and Parisian mash. The steak was cooked to perfection.

The building has recently been purchased by Pet Stock, and when we tried going there for dinner on a Saturday night last month, the restaurant appeared to be closed, so would be worth checking if they're still operating before trying your luck at this fabulous restaurant.

The Provincial in Ballarat is one of those hidden and unexpected gems.
The accomodation theme of our room was French Provincial and was beautifully appointed. The thing that blew me away was the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. I can't remember experiencing the high service level at any hotel anywhere in the world for a very long time
Everyone who works at the Provincial mane our weekend memorable
Thanks

The Provincial is a beautifully preserved building that has had an amazing and modern renovation to the rooms. Perfectly situated for a quick stroll into the city.

Arrived just after 7pm to check in. There were no staff at all in the hotel. Anywhere. The ‘emergency’ number just went through to a message service. A very kind guest offered to go back to her room to find a mobile number if there was one for anyone who might work at or be connected in any way to the hotel. But I did not want to trouble her. After calling the number in the picture multiple times and leaving two messages, and waiting in vain for about 40 minutes for some sort of response we were forced to cancel with Agoda and seek alternative accommodation.

PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL OF BOOKING THIS HOTEL. IT IS THE MOST UNPROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE I HAVE HAD ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD
