This has to be one of the best restaurants we have eaten at in Newcastle. Seated at the counter watching the food being prepared and cooked with such passion and variation. The meals were outstanding and Shane the head Chef was welcoming and lovely to converse with between courses. Will be back

Reviews looked good so we gave it a try. Late sitting, maybe staff were tired? No cohesive service, nobody seemed to know what they were doing or to care very much, with only one exception service was very offhand. We're not precious or unfriendly, but it would have been appropriate to have had some info regarding the esoteric menu. Nup, had to ask, then made to feel like we were dumb to have asked. Had to use phone lights to see at all, no comments, no offer of a candle. Food was well-executed but by then we felt we'd made a mistake so thought we'd best leave to minimise inconveniencing anybody. Not cool.

A Christmas gift finally brought us to eat at Flotilla. So glad we did .The vibe and setting of Flotilla was wonderful .A modern industrial maritime feel full of energy and the casual warmth of eating at a friends house. The service was friendly efficient and down to earth .The food was superb .The Octopus salami which has been recommended to was full of delicate flavours and delicious. The lamb and duck mains were amazing- we shared an exquisite milk honey dessert and it was all gluten free with nothing compromised in the dishes for this. Some reviewers have commented that the prices were too high.I disagree - the standards and freshness of the food we ate were definitely not overpriced. If you are someone who appreciates great food cooked with skill and passion in a warm, friendly and modern environment with a fabulous wine list - I can't recommend Flotilla highly enough. Lucky Newcastle to have such an excellent restaurant .

Flotilla's food was absolutely delicious. It was great to try some foods that we had never eaten before. The service was great with very attentive waitstaff and bar staff. It was lovely to sit outside in the fresh air and watch the scenery. Will be back again.

Went there for first sitting (6:15 to 8:30) NYE 2020 for $150/head set menu. We were initially a bit nonplussed to be seated at the bar, the maitre de was apologetic, but it turns out these were the best seats in the house, with full view of the kitchen and ability to chat with chef and his sous, ask questions, give feedback etc, and away from the forgivably boisterous group tables. The menu and its execution was excellent. Excellent oysters (natural and with lemon granita) and complementary glass of cremant a good start. Spanner crab with chicken skin and corn and beurre blanc was a little overwhelmed by burnt flavours. Wagyu beef tartare with smoked beetroot and deep fried tendons was excellent. First main was aged duck breast with stone fruits and macadamia milk. Duck was just right and delicious, as was the macadamia milk. Second main of flatiron steak with tiny dumplings, roasted green veggies and a foam made from water from fresh oysters when they are shucked was really good, they completely nailed the tiny dumplings. Gin foam and jellied tonic (or v-v?) interlude before Pink Floyd inspired dessert of dried amazake, white chocolate mousse and lemon curd was nice, but one each rather than one to share would have been better for the price, or perhaps one more small dessert course. We skipped the fairly expensive wine parings and went for a bottle of Farr Rising rose, which was perfect, despite being smoke affected by bushfires. Maybe we could just taste the smoke, but didn't detract. Service was prompt, attentive but not intrusive. Overall, really good. The second sitting crowd waiting outside as we left looked a bit raucous, but it was NYE.
