Close to the University of Canterbury, nice area but few shops or eateries close by. Clean and well-maintained with good kitchen arrangements. We had a large group of young people living across the wall and were noisy.

For those on the way in or out from Christchurch on a road trip, this 2-storey motel is a good option. Situated near the airport, you can head to the Riccarton neighbourhood (especially the main street) nearby (say 5-10mins drive) for supermarkets, restaurants and other shops. Clean place though the standard room is a little small. Wifi was alright. Hostess friendly and check out (at 10am) was very easy.

This is the closest accommodation to the university, you just cross the street. you need to walk for 15 minutes to the Supermarket. however, there are some convenient store about 5-8 minutes walk. (Go to the supermarket, it is remarkably cheaper). Staff are very nice and friendly. the place is quiet. There is a laundry room. You will get a limited GB free wifi, then you will need to pay.

This is a bit of a time capsule- the decor, bedding, carpet etc could be updated with some extra touches to make it much nicer. Fly/security screens and ac would be good. It is functional and pretty quiet. Being close to the Uni it has a bit of a monopoly in this area, but it’s a nice area in its own right as well even if you’re not trying to be in this street. Check out some beautiful gardens in the Uni grounds and nice local streets and parks.

On our first visit to New Zealand we stayed at the Academy Motor Lodge for 2 nights to recover from our 28 hour journey from England. Out total nights stay was three, two when arriving and one before our departure for home. Our studio was excellently planed out with all the amenities you would ever need. The main room was wall to wall carpeted which had a very large king size bed plus flat screen TV. It also has a very modern classy bathroom suit with toiletries included plus clean towels changed every day. The other room has all the appliances you will need to prepare and make your meals with plenty of utensils; the room also has a good sized single bed. The property is immaculately kept and feels home from home plus the lady at reception is so helpful and friendly. We loved our first 2 nights stay and were ready for our 16 day tour of the south island self drive, and knowing on our return from our tour we would have a excellent place to rest before our flight home next day.

We were so pleased we found this wonderful accommodation as it’s so important to have a comfortable quiet place to rest after your flights to recover, and also rest before your next days flights home.
