Charged $15 for car parking at hotel, the budget room we were giving, the windows were permanently ajar and could hear people walking past our window, and when we sat on the bed, it collapsed... however fair play to the man on reception, he was very polite and apologetic on the mishap, and he gave us a free upgrade to a huge Family room / suite with jacuzzi and king size bed. Free strong WiFi throughout the resort. One of these stories which we will share with others when we get home. The family room / suite was lovely.

the place is in 3 parts - budget, motel and the old house at the back. We were in the budget and were not happy. I can't speak for the rest of the place but I would guess the good reviews are for the motel as that is more expensive. The budget room we had was old and shabby, ripped wallpaper, lino on the floor, old scratched toilet and cistern. other reviews compared the budget rooms to a backpackers, I would say more like a backpackers outhouse!
It is at the 'lively' end of town. When we arrived around 2pm there were 2 drunks shouting on the front steps and another being arrested on the corner! However it is easy to get to the bars, restaurants and the harbour front.

Room tip: NOT the budget rooms

This motel can only be described as quirky with a capital Q.
It is in a reasonable area of Wellington and easy walking distance to the main areas.
In fairness, it is best suited to backpackers.
We stayed in the old house as opposed to the chalets.
It’s worth noting that parking is difficult, and we had to pay extra to have a space reserved for us.
The room had a “spa” but in truth, it was a small jetted corner bath.
The decor is very old, and the place was quite dusty. The bathroom had a cracked window and as you can see the carpet and curtains need a bit of work.
That said, for one night it was adequate.
We referred to it as Amityville!

We were greeted by the rudest woman, my husband asked where he could park our car and she said ' did you reserve a park'? Of course we didn't realise we had to, so she said ' it's in the small print' - wow so unhelpful. We had no remote to our tv, went down to reception to find nobody there. So no tv.
The room was filthy, the towels were dirty grey, in fact so bad we forfeited a shower rather than use the filthy linen.
We didn't mind the place was old, but we did mind the dirt and the noise. It looked like a backpackers hostel, with lots of pub noise from across the street. Filthy filthy filthy floors, doors and walls. I didn't want to touch anything

We had quiet flat in back...very clean..4 flats with large shared kitchen and patio. Helpful staff...esp. with parking which is scarce in Wellington. Could walk to everything...musemums, Oriental promenade, restaurants, markets. Cuba street
