We were in our last day in Rotorua, so my wife and I, along with our daughter and son-in-law walked down to see it. There is a small hot lake with a stream coming out and meandering around. There are also numerous hot-spring-like pools and vents, all properly surrounded by attractive fencing. I thought that the bubbling mud pools were very unique.
The trees and vegetation in the park are amazing. This was our first trip to New Zealand and I was totally astounded at the flora in the country. So many ferns! And Big ones, too!
Of course, it is impossible to escape the sulfur smell everywhere (not unlike Yellowstone), but that's part of the mystique! I personally thought it was the icing on the cake, but that's me. Not everyone will agree with me. At any rate, it's a short walk to get there, so enjoy!
