We spent four nights at the Oasis in June 2018. The new owners had only been in the motel for three weeks - they were very friendly and kept the place immaculate. The rooms were very quiet and the bed was comfortable. Would definitely recommend this place if visiting Gisborne. It is a few kms out of town but that is not an issue (Gisborne is not that big!) It is only one km from the nearest beach.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review. We are glad to read that your stay was enjoyable. Our motto is "Cleanliness & Friendliness" and if we achieve this, everything else just falls into place. We are very lucky to be situated where we are - just out of town, We find those who like a quiet area and not have to deal with the hustle and bustle of town, as well as enjoy the rural scenery, we are the place to be at. And like you say we are close to wonderful Beaches (which will be nice on warm days). We hope the rest of your journey was enjoyable and maybe, hopefully, we will see you back over this way in the future.
Cheers, Bruce & Jenny

We arrived a day earlier than our booking , having been scared away from Hicks Bay by weather warnings . Jenny , could not have been more welcoming and accommodating . We found out later that she and Bruce had taken over less than a week prior. They were brilliant ! We were conducted to our faultless unit for the the next three days of a great stay . We could not be more favourable in our comments . We have stayed in scores of motels over years of travel around New Zealand , trust us , it does not get any better ! If you are in Gizzy and looking for a fairly priced , well equipped , family friendly motel give Jenny a call , we would bet you’ll not get a better deal on the “other” web sites .

The staff were friendly; I had a good room. The place had a nice swimming pool although I didn't have time for a swim. The only problem with this motel is that it is a bit far away from the city centre where all of the eating places are located. Definitely need a car.

Room tip: All rooms have pretty much the same outlook

Hi TWgo
Thank you very much for your review. We are so pleased you had a good room and liked the look of our pool. While we are indeed just a few minutes drive from town we think that also adds to our special location surrounded by the lovely hills at Sponge Bay and of course the beautiful beaches we have just down the road. We do hope these pluses will bring you back again next time you are in Gisborne. Thank you for choosing to stay with us at Motel Oasis.
Kind regards
Hamish and Kate

This was my second stay at this motel. My first room was lovely; this one was not quite as nice with a sofa that had definitely seen better days. I knew I would be working, so I brought a high powered lamp as the lighting is not good to work on a computer. But it is a pleasant place, and I like the out of town location.

Room tip: Get a king bed room, as those are apparently the updated ones.

Hi Suzyankee
Thank you for your return visit and review. We are pleased to hear you find Motel Oasis a pleasant place to stay and enjoy our location. As you have mentioned we do have different types of rooms and they are at different price points, the queen studio you chose most recently being the most affordable rate we have. The bigger rooms have more in the way of comfort and are only slightly more in price. We hope next time you stay with us we will have your room type preference available. The goods news is that we are planning a full carpet refurbishment throughout all rooms and the couch you mention is being replaced too. It was our pleasure to host you and we look forward to welcoming you back. Thanks again for sharing your impressions.
Kind regards
Hamish and Kate

I booked lodging at Oasis for my son and i. Admittedly, i did not check the reservation confirmation as the reservation went through for two rooms for two nights, rather than one room for two nights. When i contacted the manager, i was curtly told to refer back to the booking agency. I did. the booking agency agreed that there was a mistake made and even contacted the manager to see what could be done. the manager would not budge so we wound up paying $520 for a one night stay. Again, my mistake initially, but i cannot believe that the manager took the attitude he did. I certainly do not conduct my own business that way!

Hi kiwitraveler2018
Thank you for taking the time to share your view. We can certainly understand your disappointment in this situation and do hope you may also appreciate that the online agent you chose to book through and the motel share a differing perspective. As the booking was made by yourself via an online agent, we have no part in taking the reservation and do as we are obligated to do and keep the rooms you yourself have booked on those dates for you. We were not able to contact you on the number you provided and when you were late on the night of arrival, as is customary with late arrivals, we set your rooms up for you and sent email instructions on how to gain access to your rooms. You did not make contact with us at this point to let us know you would not be arriving that night and we did not hear from you til the next day when you did make use of your booking for the second night. While we will always take each situation into consideration before making any decision on cancellation, this was not a situation where it would be reasonable to expect the motel to wear the cost of your error as we had no opportunity to sell those rooms to anybody else as they were kept for you. We do understand Matt, our manager, explained this to you and you were disappointed with his delivery, and we are sorry for that. We do know that he is always very professional and friendly and has always received very good feedback in his dealings with guests and can only assume it was the outcome that was most upsetting to you. We do wish you well with the rest of your NZ travels.
Kind regards
Hamish & Kate
