The rooms are basic with mine having a bit of a damp smell, and the décor is a tad rough. But for a room in a very centrally-sited hotel in Auckland at just over $50 a night, this is really great value. The staff are friendly as well.

Hi there,

Thanks so much for the review and it's awesome to hear that you found the location was convenient! I will pass on your comments regarding the damp smell onto our operations manager and hotel manager to look into. We are also currently in the process of refreshing our decor and looking at options for the different areas, so we will definitely take note of your feedback.

Thanks,
Lucy

Six of us on a family trip stayed here -- four in the family room and two in a double. The family room is fantastic -- a huge space with a nice kitchen and a high vaulted ceiling over the beds -- really lovely. It's all one big room (with the exception of the bathroom) so you won't have a huge amount of privacy, but we were impressed. There was a significant amount of street noise (as well as some revelers urinating on the building?), so come prepared. It took multiple visits from staff to get the TV working. The double was less fondly reviewed. The place as a whole could do with a bit of scrubbing, but the staff was friendly if not particularly organized and the location good--a nice park across the street and walking distance to shops and transport (though at the top of a steep hill). Would definitely stay in the family room again at the price we paid.

What my star ratings mean:
5 stars — Truly outstanding, a personal favorite
4 stars — Very good, would gladly return
3 stars — Good, would return, but there are some issues to note
2 stars — Not so hot—would not return but might work if you can deal with the problems
1 star — Avoid.

Room tip: Family room was great for two adults and two kids.

Hi there,

Thanks so much for taking the time to write us a review. It's great to hear that you enjoyed your stay in our studio (it sounds like you were in the studio rather than a family room) and found the location convenient and staff welcoming and friendly. Our Auckland property was our first Snooze and is located in a historic building, we aren't able to change much structurally including windows to reduce street noise. I will pass your comment regarding the TVs onto our hotel manager to look into.

We do hope you enjoyed your overall trip to Auckland!

Was close to Auckland strand station and Queen St. It works for a night in Auckland. Shared bathrooms seemed small and not the greatest. But not bad for a more budget friendly Auckland accomodation. There twin bunk room was quite small in size.

Hi Samantha,

Thanks so much for your review! It's great to hear that you enjoyed the convenient location. Unfortunately, as we are located in a heritage building, we aren't able to change much of the design and layout, but I'll pass your feedback onto our hotel manager as we are always looking for ways in which we can improve.

We do hope you enjoyed your visit to Auckland overall!

Great location and the staff are helpful but the place is a little run down and could do with some refurbishment. The kitchen is also not great. However at the end of each corridor is a nice little balcony, handy if you’re a smoker. The WiFi is very limited with only 30mins each 24 hours

Now, I'm not one to write a review very often unless somewhere has either exceeded or completely missed the scale. Unfortunately, it was the latter for this place. Jucy Snooze, Auckland, has the 'you've left me behind' feel to it, if we are to compare it to it's sister hostel in Christchurch and I'm sure, Queenstown too. The staff at this snooze provide great service, but it seems that's the only consistency here. We booked a double room and got a double bed with a bunk over the top, so our plans to spend our afternoon watching movies whilst planning our next trip were limited to either sitting in the half meter gap between the bed and the wall or breaking out necks in a vein attempt to sit on the bed. I have no idea why we were given a 3 bed dorm when we paid a fair price for just a double, it seems I should have brought my invisible friend after all. The maintenance is poor, again in comparison to Christchurch, with poor furnishing and a half hearted attempt at its upkeep. There's a sweet scent of dog faeces drifting through the windows (which albeit may not be the hostels fault) and their kitchen is something a family of 4 may find somewhat cosy. The Christchurch hostel also offers fast, free wifi throughout all the rooms, but Auckland limits you to 30 minutes along with an extra charge for a carpark that even Tetris would be jealous of. This is just all too inconsistent and it's foreign to me how one company can hit such opposite ends of the scale. It's a shame, as we have used Jucy on numerous occasions for car hires and hostels throughout the year and this was the last night of our trip... completely let down!! I won't be recommending this hostel to anyone, I'm afraid.
DISCLAIMER: This review is not to dampen the Christchurch Snooze... It's fab.

Room tip: Private rooms w/ en suite are much better

Hi Katie,

Thanks so much for leaving us a review - we really appreciate the feedback!

We understand your disappointment with our Auckland Snooze property. Jucy Snooze Auckland was the first Snooze out of our three properties, and as such offers a different product to both Christchurch and Queenstown. As the site was not purpose-built and is located in a heritage building, the condition is older and unfortunately we aren't able to change much of the building design and layout. We will definitely be taking your feedback on board as we are currently working on ways to regenerate our Auckland Snooze or find a new site to align with our two other Snooze properties.

It's great to hear you love the Christchurch location, and we do hope your overall visit to Auckland was enjoyable.
