The Sebel is not in the middle of downtown or even on the edge, and there are absolutely no conveniences around it . You’ll have to go two blocks to the outlet mall for bad fast food. Or take the bus if you want to go anywhere. It’s a good 20 minute walk from the center city.
But for me, there was enough right about the Sebel that I would probably choose to stay there again. First, the apartments are quite nice—they provide good quality toiletries and towels, and a mini kitchen and all the dishes you will need. The balcony is a nice touch and here is an in room washer and dryer, with an economical 10 minute cycle for wash. The air con works well. And the gym though small, is really complete, with double pulley, three weight stacks, barbells, leg press and a few cardio machines including a rower. It’s open 24/7 and everything is high quality matrix brand, and relatively new. There is a nice 22 meter pool. You’ll have to pick your moments to swim because it is narrow, but it worked for me.
Other guests have complained about cleanliness or maintenance, i didn't have any of these problems. Everything was in good working condition. It was not luxe, but it was certainly good enough for four star rating. The housekeeping is weekdays only though and if you want a late check out you might have to pay (though the rate is very reasonable!)
My only issue was that every day, the keycards would go out and either not let me in, or even worse, not open the front door to the complex after hours. By 8:45pm the reception had skipped duty, and no one replied to the mobile line. Luckily someone came by and the room key worked to the room, even though it didn’t work anywhere else, or else which would have been a problem. They need a whole new RFID system as the problem seemed to repeat. The staff that did show up for duty was very nice .
The Sebel is 10 minutes to the RAC arena, 10 minutes to City West train station for the airport connection, or a short bus ride downtown. I never felt unsafe even though the streets were deserted. West perth doesn’t have much going on, but if you need to be here, the Sebel works!
