Our group decided to try the new addition to the Walker Evans Group of food venues in Docklands "Chiara" which has only been open for a week. Other venues they own in the area are a coffee shop called Long Shot and virtually next door Bar Nacional. This particular venue provides fine dining Italian Food. Menu isn't large but I anticipated quality food from a venue owned by an owner of "My Kitchen Rules" fame Pete Evans.
Food was served promptly but unfortunately I found the wait staff a little 'surly" and perhaps they should be trained to smile and laugh a little more. Perhaps build some rapport with the clients.
A bit of a mixed bag as far as the food goes. All the food was very well presented as expected but portion sizes of the mains served were quite small for the prices paid. If you are hungry you will need to order some sides to compliment the main meal.
Pizzas look good but I found my Pork Belly and Radiccio Pizza okay but just seemed to lack any real flavour which I was expecting from this restaurant. Even the Chili requested to accompany the pizza lacked any heat and could have been mistaken as Capsicum. To be honest I make pizzas quite frequently at home and the ones I make were a lot more delicious.
One of our group ordered the Pork Chop "business lunch" but the meat wasnt cooked properly and had red blood oozing from the bone. One needs to be very careful that pork is cooked properly.
Although well presented I didnt feel that the main meals offered great value for the prices paid. Pizzas probably offer the best value and the prices are similar to the nearby Collins Cafe.
The ambiance was lovely and upmarket and the restaurant is located on Collins Street near Collins Square. We were located in a private room which was surrounded by a great wine collection.
Perhaps Ill try again in the future once they have been established a little longer.
