We like to start our time in new cities with bike tours because you can cover so much ground and see far better than on a bus or in a car. We booked online the day before. Matt was our guide, and he worked hard on a 90 degree day to make sure everyone was doing OK and to entertain and educate us. He was charming and funny, and there was a good balance of culture, history, sport, and political science. We laughed a lot, but there was plenty of substance. When we arrived at the lunch venue, at first I was disappointed because it was outside and I was craving a bit of air conditioning. But since it was the best meal I had in Australia, I soon forgot the climate issue! With it being so hot, Matt didn't rush the lunch at all. We had a leisurely lunch and got to know our fellow travelers. We all exchanged suggestions about the things we'd done in Australia. We also got to pump Matt for information about Melbourne activities. The bikes were in great shape, and the price couldn't be beat. This is a must for your first day in Melbourne!
