This lovely little property in Melbourne's chi chi South Yarra is warm, intimate and inviting... and the staff take customer service seriously. If you prefer your hotel accommodation to feel intimate, cosy and low-key but still luxurious, rather than shouty and grand, then this could well be the place for you.

Room Tip: Try the larger suites on the fourth floor.

Great location, great service
...but one of the staff came into our room uninvited whilst my partner was naked in the bathroom and saw it all. Very awkward moment and caused discomfort for reminder of stay.

Dear Barry,
Thank you for your comments on TripAdvisor and I am pleased to
know that you enjoyed the location and service of the hotel.
I completely understand your partner's discomfort and wish to
apologise for this awkward moment. This is not usual practice
and a most unfortunate set of circumstances where the Do Not Disturb
was not engaged and the doorbell was not heard. Please know that we
have addressed this concern within hotel. Once again, my apologies.
I do hope that we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the near
future.
Warmest wishes,

I feel this hotel calls itself boutique due to its size and not the facilities it provides.

Yes, it was aesthetically pleasing from the outside and service upon check in was friendly. We were given room 101 which we affectionately named the dungeon!

It was clean but had no view, we looked at the apartments next door. The underfloor heating was intermittent and when we asked them to split one of the king rooms into two singles they did so in the smallest room which meant there was little to no room for two adults to move around in.

In room entertainment was terrible, we wanted to watch a dvd and after what felt like a scene from faulty towers, we eventually got there (2 dvd players later, one which still had a vcr component). Due to the 1 hr debacle the staff were kind enough to offer complimentary breakfast, we were thankful for that. Hopefully the hotel look at providing movies on demand like many other high end boutique hotels!

We did visit the day spa and it was nice but rooms are noisy and I couldn't relax with the ppl talking in the next room.

Would we stay here again, I don't think so, not with the many other choices available at the same price.

Dear Chassie,
Thank you for posting a review on TripAdvisor.
The Lyall Hotel and Spa has 40 Suites which does
categorize it as a boutique hotel. Our services and
facilities are that of a larger hotel but on a more
personal scale. Suite 101 is on the ground floor
(one of two 2 bedroom suites on the ground floor)
as we are on a tree-lined street in urban South Yarra,
views are often of apartment buildings as opposed to
office buildings in downtown. Our two bedroom suites
are mosts popular with families, the second bedroom which
can be configured as a King or Twin is usually occupied
by children so the smaller size room is not usually an issue.
For four adults, I would recommend our Grand Two Bedroom
category or a One Bedroom Suite each.
I apologise for your experience with the DVD players, we do
have a DVD library but to be honest, they are mainly used for
children's movies and are not often called for. The staff
were also apologetic and offered you breakfast. We
do have cable TV channels and are currently looking
into the latest hotel options for streaming.
I have not heard of noise in our spa rooms before and
will most certainly look into it. You may have encountered
a chatty client in the room next door.
We appreciate that you decided to stay at The Lyall on this
occasion and would like to welcome you back again. Please
do let me know if you decide to rebook.
Warmest wishes,
Rowina T

The hotel is ok. Style of a boutique hotel . Rooms have gods space .staying is ok if you need to spend few days as they have also a small kitchen. Is not close to the center so if you are a tourist better a place close to the city center .

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your review on TripAdvisor.
Yes, the Lyall Hotel and Spa is a boutique hotel with lead-in suites starting
at 50 sq mtrs. Each has a separate living area with a kitchen facility for
those who are staying longer or simply like to be able to make their own
food or drinks. We also have a bistro and 24 room service.
Our South Yarra location is central to many attractions and areas of Melbourne
and has a wide selection of restaurants and shops within easy walking distance.
A lovely alternative to the business district.
With thanks,

Perfect girls 3 day weekend. This place is cozy, beautiful, and welcoming. I could live in the 2 bedroom suites. The staff are so friendly. The breakfast was great. We didn't try any spa treatments with our luxury escape package but maybe next time.
