Description: A MUST for Brisbane Tourists Whether to take advantage of a cool, quiet spot for breakfast or lunch, treat yourself to a decadent High Tea or to say you’ve been to Brisbane’s oldest café, Shingle Inn promises to be a destination that will leave lasting memories. Shingle Inn City Hall is the reincarnation of Brisbane’s oldest and most loved café. Originally opened in 1936 on Edward Street, Shingle Inn is well known for its superior quality cakes, unique environment and outstanding service. Reopened in 2013, after 11 years in storage during inner-city development works, it is now situated within one of Brisbane’s most recognised buildings, City Hall, and continues its tradition as a location that can reach across the generational divide, making it the ideal location for special occasions and memorable outings. Shingle Inn has an extensive all-day breakfast and lunch menu or you can select something sweet from the cake cabinet to enjoy with your tea, coffee or cold drink.

Unfortunately this place is overpriced for what it is. If you want to have a look, just walk to the entrance, the "restaurant" is tiny, the booths are cramped and it is claustrophobic. There are much nicer places to have lunch or a coffe and cake. Sorry Shingle Inn, but this is my honest opinion.

When you need a cup of tea and some delicious sweet or savory food while visiting the Museum of Brisbane or before hitting the shops this is the place. Relax and imagine a more refined era where small sips of tea and bites of delicious cakes were savoured and conversations were valued. Forget the smartphone, this is a moment where you can blissfully sit and contemplate your next adventure if you are traveling solo or enjoy some time with that special friend. The staff are efficient and friendly and happy to make sure you are completely happy with your food order. I will be back.

Great place to take my elderly dad. Lovely peaceful ambience, unfortunately the food and service are in need of an overhaul. The model doesn't work. It seems that the food is microwaved or prepared elsewhere. Still, it's worth a visit, have a coffee or tea but perhaps skip the meals to avoid disappointment.

With a splendid location in the City Hall and the décor and niceness of a 1950’s tearoom, we expected more from this café. We were served my soup and my wife’s toasted sandwich but they forgot our drinks. The counter lady was baffled when we reminded her 15 minutes into the meal. We got them 15 minutes later. There were only half a dozen others in the place at this lunch time.
