“Lovely House, Enjoyed the visit !”
Review of Owletts

Really enjoyed my visit here. Only some of the house is open to the public due to people still living in the rest of the house.Garden is a nice short walk around and a nice little coffee & cake area (payment using the 'donation' payment). Staff and very nice and very informed. Great day out, a credit to the National Trust.

We happened to be passing Owletts on a Sunday so we popped in. It is only open on Sundays as it is an occupied NT location.

There are a few rooms open downstairs full of interesting books and memorabilia and it has a nice garden (complete with dog toys!). The self service tea room had some lovely cakes.

The house has owls dotted around the place as a trail for children to find - and during our visit we had help from the great-great-great (I think) grandchildren of Sir Herbert.

This is one of those rather small properties which it is well worth a visit if you are in the area on a Sunday, the only day on which the property is open, but not going far out of your way to visit. The interior comes across as a comfortable home of an upper middle class owner, but in many respects the career of the former occupant, Sir Hubert Baker, is as interesting as the house itself. Far less well known than Lutyens with whom he worked, Baker's architectural legacy is still impressive.

We recently booked to have a cream tea at national trust Owletts in Cobham. It was truly spectacular. We are in style in the library and what a feast - four different sandwiches (cheesecake homemade chutney, cream cheese and smoked salmon, cucumber and ham and mustard), cinnamon buns, two types of biscuit, sticky chocolate cake and two scones each with homemade strawberry jam and cream. To top things off we had a choice of tea including 0wletts blend which was a fruity tea with as much hot water as we wanted. It was absolutely delightful and topped off a visit to the small but interesting Stuart house with knowledgeable and entertaining guides. Definitely one to look out for and worth every penny but remember to come hungry.

We visited Owletts for a second time and it was like returning to a family friend's home. As National Trust members living in Kent we visit many of our local houses and gardens regularly for walks, picnics and of course the tea rooms as well as for the cultural and historical interest. Owletts, in its low key way, is the best. It retains the old school charm of the National Trust and hasn't succumbed to the standardisation and commercialism of some properties. Bravo, kongratulationer to the family and team who continue to make is such a delight.
