dreadful understaffed at the buffet dry sandwiches were served erratically no glasses to serve alcohol after 8.30 no staff clearing tables the guy in charge was 19 years old ! at the wedding party breakfast all guests scattered everywhere and not even sat in the same room 10 min wait for sausages on full English pleasant grounds but terribly unkempt a poorly managed place will definitely not use this venue for any future family events

With the children on holiday with their grandparents, we took a 2 night break at Chilworth Manor. It fulfilled everything we wanted.

The hotel is in a great location in large attractive grounds. Arriving Friday evening, we went for a deluxe room and were given room No.1 - a quirky upstairs and downstairs arrangement, like a little house! The hotel was refurbished in 2016 and we found both our room and the hotel itself to be in a good decorated state.

After sharing a jug of Pimms (£10) we dined in the restaurant. Big portions! We wanted but couldn't fit in dessert. On Saturday we went to The Club and enjoyed the pool, steam room and jacuzzi - it was pleasantly quiet - and we departed just as family time started at 3pm, with a large pick up of activity. (Note that The Club is not run by the hotel but open to its guests). In the evening we drove round the corner to The Chilworth Arms for a delicious dinner (including dessert!) We didn't walk as the grounds were going to be dark after sunset and we were pleased that we did that as indeed it was pitch black after sunset.

On Sunday morning, having enjoyed the full breakfast buffet we went to The Club again, prior to checkout, for a full spa treatment superbly delivered. (We just got in having booked earlier in the week prior to arrival). We knew we were going to be a little past checkout time and reception were relaxed about that. Having checked out we didn't leave straight away but went for a long walk in the surrounding woods and had lunch at the bar before finally departing for home.

We thoroughly recommend a stay there.

Dear Christopher N

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us here at Best Western Chilworth Manor.

I am delighted that your break fulfilled your expectations and that you enjoyed your time with us. Room 1 is a particular favourite due not only to the unique duplex layout, but also the views of the gardens. It's great that you were able to make use of the facilities at The Club and I'm pleased you managed to book yourselves in for a spa treatment on Sunday morning.

The Chilworth Conservation Area which adjoins our grounds is popular for walkers, did you find the Deer Ring?

We do hope you will choose to stay with us again in the future, it will be our pleasure to welcome you back.

Sincerely
Nathan Chart - General Manager

My wife and I stayed in room 17 for 2 nights. We were efficiently checked in but the male receptionist who dealt with us did not engage in conversation with us, unlike the receptionist dealing with two other people at the time. We had to ask to get basic information on dinner, for example (we had a dinner, bed and breakfast booking).

Our room was at the front of the hotel, adjacent to the entrance. We had requested a room in a quiet location. Under normal circumstances, the location might have been quiet but we were often disturbed by people noisily leaving and entering the hotel after midnight. The room had no air-conditioning but did have an electric fan. It was cooler with the windows open.

The room was spacious with a large wardrobe, two bedside cabinets, desk, table and two chairs. Plenty of tea and coffee were provided on the desk and replenished daily. There was a safe, large enough for an iPad, in the wardrobe. It was rather dark in the room with a single light in the ceiling. However, the lights around the bed were very good for reading. One of the bedside lamps was missing the bulb but this was replaced promptly.

The bathroom looked freshly refurbished, comprising a shower over a bath, washbasin and toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body lotion and bath gel). Surprisingly only one set of towels was provided – we found another set in the wardrobe. However, we had to ask for another bath towel because only one had been left the next day.

The restaurant was pleasant but the menu was rather limited in that there were not many dishes we fancied (without paying a supplement). Sufficient variety for 2 nights but we would have struggled to find something different for a third night. We ate in the restaurant 2 nights. There were no specials on the 1st night and only a special main course on the 2nd night. Of the starters we tried the Caesar salad and the bread with olives/balsamic vinegar dippings. The latter was our favourite. For mains we tried the fish and chips, asparagus and spinach tarte tatin, risotto and Thai green chicken curry. The tarte tatin was disappointing, being effectively spinach on top of pastry. The fish and chips came with the fish covering all the chips in a basket, making it difficult to eat the chips at first. The fish was rather greasy, the batter was not very golden and crisp. By contrast the risotto and curry were much better. For desserts there were about 6 choices but half had chocolate in one form or another. The summer pudding was very good. Instead of eating in the restaurant, it was also possible to eat in the bar area. The menus were very similar and the prices were identical. Considering the difference between the bar and restaurant, we would have expected differences in the price and more menu options. The staff in the restaurant were very polite and attentive.

Breakfast started at 0700 each weekday, 0730 at weekends. Essentially it was a buffet service comprising hot food (usual English breakfast), cereal, bread, croissants, fruit, juice and yoghurts. Coffee and tea were brought to the table. Freshly cooked food (porridge, omelette, poached eggs) could also be ordered. There was not much fresh fruit and on the first morning the pineapple had all the “skin” left on it!

The hotel itself had extensive grounds butting onto a conservation area and so there were many walks around the hotel. There were also notices warning walkers of the possibility of adders in the area but we never saw any. Only wild rabbits.

The location of the hotel was very good, being near the motorway, main roads and university. Romsey is only 4 miles away and is well worth visiting.

My wife was very aggrieved when returned after the 1st morning to find her 30th wedding anniversary card placed flat on the suitcase instead of standing up on the bedside table where it had been left!

Despite the hotel boasting of 250 parking spaces, it was often very difficult to find spaces in the main hotel car park. The hotel does park and cruise specials which obviously takes up some of the spaces available.

Room tip: Rooms at the back might be quieter - avoid those near the entrance.

Dear RossOrpington

Thank you for reviewing your recent stay with us here at Best Western Chilworth Manor so comprehensively.

I am delighted that your overall experience was positive and that you enjoyed your time at the hotel. I am sorry that a couple of the main courses off our restaurant menu disappointed, Fish and Chips is one of our most popular dishes so I will ensure your feedback on this is shared with Chef to ensure there is no compromise in the consistency of this dish.

From your review I presume you were staying with us whilst celebrating your 30th wedding anniversary, please accept my congratulations on this and my apologies that the housekeeping team forgot to re-position your wife's card when servicing the room.

I do hope you will choose to stay with us again in the future, we look forward to welcoming you back.

I attended here the other day for an event.

The service, venue and all staff were amazing and very courteous.

The food was very well prepared, cooked and served.

Whilst there I spoke to other guests who were there for the spa facilities and they were all raving about it.

The building and grounds are beautiful and need to be viewed by all, worth a trip

Room tip: All are good depends on your preference
