Room had everything we needed and expected and was also very spacious. The bathroom had no heating other than a heated towel rail but that wasn’t too much of a problem. We were on the ground floor in the Masters House but experienced a lot of floorboard noise from the room above which became a nuisance after we had retired to bed. We had a good side view of the main building and the pretty gardens in the front. The room was clean and serviced well. My personal disappointment was our restricted menu as part of our two day deal with Wowcher. We were not informed that it was only a two course dinner but not told we could have upgraded to other choices. However all of the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. A very nice little break and we would return to this hotel.

Room Tip: If your not a heavy sleeper ask for an upper room. Get to breakfast early.

Couldn't fault the hotel. Spacious room with comfortable bed. House keeping even found us some softer pillows for our second night. The food was of a high standard and good sized portions. There was plenty of places to sit and relax around the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
There was a bit of a mix up with the booking of the spa treatments but this was eventually sorted.
The gym had good equipment.
My only negative comment is regarding the men's intense massage....it was not intense at all!
The therapist was very young and didn't seem confident, there was little communication and my husband felt it was a total waste of money for his treatment. I enjoyed my massage although pricey.
We would definitely return to the hotel but I wouldn't have any treatments...just enjoy the facilities.

We visited as part of a voucher package. One overnight stay with one spa treatment.
We paid £5 more each to upgrade from 2 to 3 course evening meal.
The room was very comfortable and had everything required. Only problem was toilet seat would not stay up which seems to be a problem that occurs in several hotels. This is because it is too close to the shelf behind.
The spa was very nice and had every possible type of room for relaxation.
I had a neck and back massage.
Food was excellent and breakfast was a buffet type with good choice and nicely hot.
It is an old school type building with panelled walls. The cleaning of the panels and numerous wall hangings could do with more dusting although this is a massive task.
Overall a pleasant stay. As expected bar prices are not cheap.

Where do you start? Check in was quick and easy thanks to the polite, educated and efficient front desk staff. My room was at the top up what seemed like a million stairs! but keeps you fit and adds to the character of the building.
The hotel is an old building and appears to have some history to it, lots of oak panelling and big, imposing rooms all very grand.
The room itself was full of exposed beams and a wonky floor which could be fun if you over-indulged in the bar! Couldn't put a cup on the glass top table as it would slide off! I ate in the bar both nights and the food was excellent, although the Piri-piri chicken was more sage and herb than Piri but was still very nice. I had soup and the angus burger on night two and it was brilliant, cooked to perfection and full of flavour. Breakfast was buffet style with lots of choice including cereals, toast, fruit and the continental selection for those of a European disposition! Top quality sausasge and bacon so much better than most hotels where 'basic will do', this was the real McCoy!
The setting is very nice, and as a wedding location next to the lake gives up a nice scene, even had ducks walking across the lake early in the morning due to being iced over.
I hope to use the hotel again when I am back in the area.

Room Tip: My room overlooked the Schoolmasters house and front lawn area which was quite a nice view.
