Although we have driven past many times over the years and it has been recommended by friends, this was our first visit to the Venus Restaurant. There is a pleasant bar area to have a drink whilst looking through the extensive menu and the wine list. The dining room is surprisingly spacious with a good space between tables. The service from all the staff was excellent. The dishes are cooked to order, accompanied by a range of vegetables and served silver service. Portions are more than adequate but staff give plenty of consideration for time between courses. This is good traditional cooking (e.g. duckling, lamb shank and steaks and chicken breast in various sauces) rather than nouvelle cuisine. There are also vegetarian dishes. The wine list has a range of reasonably priced European and New World wines, including a good Argentinan Norton Malbec. We were thoroughly satisfied by our first visit to what must be one of the best restaurants in the area.
