After a spot of shopping we had a wander along the River Lea in Ware.
The river originates a few hundred metres from where I use to live in Luton and continues its trail for over 40 miles to the River Thames in the capital.
Today I walked a short part of it at the Ware Weir/Ware lock section, more for a photo opportunity and a leg stretch.
The short part I took was flat and several canal boats frequented the area.
Ware itself is a pretty little town and worth a visit.....this river certainly adds to the charm.

River Lea at the Hertfordshire end is absolutely beautiful with plenty of good walks along the tow path. Lovely at every season, with different things to see. We have a narrow boat so it is also great for trips along the actual river.

The Lea is a beautiful river that sends it's way through Hertfordshire, my home county. I like it in the Spring, ducks and ducklings, Swans and cygnets and frog spawn and tadpoles.

Amwell is by the man made historic new river which was built to take water to London. A pretty island with a statue bearing a poem. Don’t miss emma’s well tucked away. George IV nearby for refreshments by the quaint church. Just a short distance is the River Lea. Well worth a stroll round.

We usually ride along the tow path, but this time we were out for a casual stroll.
The track is well drained with only a few puddles and muddy sections.
Regardless of this I would recommend that you wear suitable foot wear, like boots, and not trainers.
It is also necessary to keep a careful listen for approaching cyclists so you can move out of their way, as not all bikers use their bell with which to warn of their approach.
Even at this time of year there is lots to look at, and you certainly see more on foot that if you are speeding along on the bike.
