The perfect location for a winter escape!

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jan 11, 2025via mobile
We had the most wonderful 4 nights for our 40th Wedding Anniversary. We were extremely lucky with the weather which made our stay at the Radisson Blu even better. Henri greeted us every morning at the breakfast restaurant as an old friend and with a glass of sparkling wine! A fantastic visit. Thanks particularly to our son for choosing such a fantastic hotel

Room Tip: The Locals are extremely friendly & everyone speaks English. The Spa treatments are pricey, but...

Staff always make a business. This is definitely the case at the Golden Sands.
We have stayed several times but this was first time in the winter.
At Flavours, Abid couldn’t do enough to make sure we had EVERYTHING we needed. He went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. Lovely lovely man. We had some fantastic meals on the buffet package which was such a great surprise as buffet style meals can sometime lack quality but this was definitely NOT the case.

At breakfast, what a better way to start your day than to be greeted warmly by Henri. He just makes you feel good and of importance.

The staff at the kids were exceptional and you could tell they really enjoyed the job. Our daughter had the best time ever. 10/10

Even though we had an issue, the reception sorted it out. How you just a company when something goes wrong is how they deal with it and they did with flying colours.

When we rang reception for anything, it was dealt with almost immediately. We didn’t have to ring twice, which in busy hotels can be the norm. So full marks there too. Special mention to Tim for his humour and cheerfulness.

We also used the app for housekeeping to order towels and pillows which was very impressive too.

We really enjoyed everything about it and couldn’t fault it.

Keep up the good work and thanks for making it such a welcome rest and break for us.

Heading to Malta we were tired and run down from the manic pace of work and studies, so we were in need of some TLC.

We got that in abundance at the Golden Sands. The atmosphere, the service, the security and the variety of food, drink, activities was exactly what the doctor ordered.

The amenities were excellent, something for all the family, and all age groups to enjoy.

The hotel is located close to a bus stop which links you with the main attractions, and within the hotel there are car rental and boat excursions desks to support with travelling to your destinations of choice.

I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone looking for a luxurious relaxing escape, and would definitely visit again.

This was the most staff friendly and efficient hotel I have visited in years. Combined with excellent food and amenities it is hard to beat. I stayed here about 10 years ago and will certainly come back. I missed out on the Indian Restaurant but the Italian one was great

Room tip: Nothing to avoid

This is a great hotel with lovely staff. It is very confusing though where to go, it's not well signposted.

It is in a gorgeous location but it's also not near anything. We were forced to eat in the hotel every night for dinner as there was nothing close except Apples eye but it closes at 6 the hotel was so expensive not to mention they do not have an under 5s menu which meant we were €11 euros for pasta and another €4 for a drink. That is a lot for a 2 year old who has about 4 bites but we didnt have a choice, especially when we are eating things like spicy curries or beef wraps. However, all the meals we had in all the restaurants were absolutely delicious.

We spent €100 for 2 tour bus tickets to visit North, south and 3 cities harbour cruise. I wish we just hired a car. I thought jumping on/off a bus would be a great way to visit the country but the way it actually worked is that we spent hours on these buses going round the same routes. 3 hours or so to get to the fishing village and the buses finish early so you don't get long to spend there. We had taken the earliest bus as well and no time to visit anywhere else that day to break up long journey.

Popeye village was a good day out. €32 euros for a taxi return though and another €10 for a babyseat, they didnt even bring the right seat for a 2 year old so couldn't even use it.

As its winter, the only pool that people are using is the indoor one so it's jam packed full of kids, wish I knew before booking my massage thinking I would have a nice relaxing spa time. I have kids, I don't mind but the pool is too small to have it all. As its not open to kids in the afternoon, everyone crams in around the same time before kids are in bed. It should be kids in the afternoon and adults only in the evening.

Again staff are lovely but I think due to language barrier, there were a few mistakes in orders and a bit slow in service for drinks. One time we waited for 25 mins in Indian restaurant before going to get a member to take our drinks order. We got our order after 45 mins. We got our food 55mins later. A couple came in at the same time as us with no booking where sitting eating before someone even came to us. The food was absolutely delicious though.

I saw a live singer 2 nights, not sure what other entertainment there was. It had quietened down and most people back at work so perhaps no more entertainment. I didn't see any nighttime entertainment for kids.

Room tip: Bed good, pillows terrible. Good wifi, food delicious but pricey. Not many options to eat in area. Nowhere to go for walks in the evening.

This is a hotel which according to marketing is categorised as a five star hotel. We stayed there for a week in the end week of dec 2024 and early jan 2025 (7 nights).

Hotel location is quite nice by a beautiful bay. Nice views from balcony (we had suite with sea view). Beautiful nature but not as quiet as we expected. By the hotel is a small parking place and a few cafeterias and for some reason local car enthusiasts come and drive + accelerate fast with their loud sports cars (seems to be a popular hobby on Malta). I am a car enthusiast, but this was too much even for me! You hear all the time engine sound from TUNED and cheap young boys first cars!!

Hotel rooms were quite worn. bad air conditioning, worthless shower, unusable Wifi, etc.... Materials in bad shape and not what you expect from a five star hotel.

Extremely polite personnel in restaurants. Cocky personnel by reception but restaurant personnel was exceptionally good.

Breakfast experience was chaotic - Unbelievable noice and crowd of hotel guests which was not enjoyable at all. Like a big kinder garden of hysteric adults running around for food. Coffee machines out of order all the time and it was all a chaotic mess and very loud. No harmony what so ever. A great pianist was playing but the sound was too loud in a big hall. Not his fault though. He was great!!

We had half board - and it is usable only in one restaurant (Flavours). This is the first hotel with such restriction. All other resorts we have been to around the world during the last 30 years have allowed half board in all hotel restaurants.

Flavours restaurant food was ok, but nothing special. Eating same tasteless food every morning and evening wasn't that nice. I cant explain it, but the food was just not impressive. There was a lot of food, but the selection and taste wasnt ok.

Gym - A small gym for such a big hotel. Fits max 4-5 persons at a time. Way too small and poor quality.

In marketing material was written heated pool - Outside pool was far from heated. Inside pool of course warm.

All things above maybe give a very negative feeling. If the hotel would be marketed as four star hotel.... then I understand all things mentioned above. But not in a five star hotel.

Don't get me wrong.... Its not a bad hotel, but there are too many things which could be easily fixed and make the experience what you expect.

I am surprised by all the 4-5 star rating this hotel has received on trip advisor. The only explanation I can imagine is, that these people are not used to five stars and for them this is acceptable.

I still hope all the best for this resort and thank for this vacation. I rate this hotel to four stars!
