Just returned from Austria. The Almwelt is a lovely hotel with friendly staff. We had a ground floor room in the Jagdhaus annexe. It was really big with very comfortable beds and sofa and huge bathroom and separate loo. A short walk to the ski room and can see the slopes just outside (literally about 10 paces). We had no walking in ski boots or carrying skis for the whole week. The Spa is fantastic (accessed through the underground walkway in your provided robes/slippers) there are 2 saunas a steam room and upstairs fantastic mountain views while you rest with your healthy water or fruit tea. Restaurant is spacious and quiet and the food is lovely. Breakfast is a buffet style with cereals, yogurts, fruit, breads, ham, cheese and boiled eggs. If you ask the staff for scrambled or fried eggs with ham or bacon it is freshly cooked and brought to your table (no extra charge). There is a bar but no lounge area and therefore after dinner there's literally nothing to do unless you have a car to go to Schladming or 25 euros each way for a taxi. Glad we brought books. The skiing in this resort is fantastic. All well linked up and mainly tree-lined long runs with good lifts. Just one criticism of the signposts being so small and not in evidence much although large ski maps are all around. We will definitely going back!More
