Owner description: The Knut Hamsun Centre is located by the vicarage ruins on the banks of the Glimma River in Presteid in Hamarøy Municipality in Northern Norway. The centre is situated in a beautiful cultural landscape surrounded by nature that remains virtually as untouched as it was in Hamsun’s time. The centre’s tower offers an impressive view over the realm of Hamsun, the area that inspired the author to write world renowned books like Pan, Growth of the Soil and Wayfarers.

This museum, with its AWESOME architecture, is dedicated to the life and writing of the Nobel Literature Price winner Knut Hamsun. Interesting to learn about this authors life and writing. The center is located on the beautiful "Hamarøy" peninsula, well worth a sightseeing tour too!

The story of Hamsunsenteret is not only about the Nobel Prize awarded author Knut Hamsun but also a story of Steven Holl's architecture, and the prosess of how it really was build. As long as the building is standing it will continue to take care of the interest of how Knut Hamsun was obsessively about putting the right word together. To fully understand this you need to learn Norwegian!

This Museum has a really nice architecture - that will be the first you will see. It is about the author Hamsun and you have letters as well as other documented material about him on different Levels of the Museum. The staff is very friendly and downstairs you can take a break and drink a coffee and eat some cake if you want. it is really nice and I would recommend a visit at Hamsunsenteret.

The Hamsundsenter is covering almost all aspects of the Nobellaureates life and doings, not trying to hide the not so glamorous aspects (the nazi sympaties) but also trying to show the human behind the fasade. Absolutely a place to visit.

This museum building is spectacular seen from the outside. It blends nicely in with the Nordland-nature and is an architectural treasure. Every floor has exhibitions dedicated to different parts of Hamsun's life, and it is organized in a very instructive way. It is very interesting! In addition we attended a guided tour that focussed on Hamsun's most influential pieces. Our guide was very knowledgeable and interesting. I would definitively recommend a stop at this museum if you visiting Nordland.
