This is a very informative museum dedicated to the life and works of the great and controversial norwegian writer Knut Hamsun.

The museum building is alone worth the trip. It is a fantastic building designed by Steven Holl, and it adds a lot to the experience.

It is very interesting to visit both this museum and Hamsuns childhood home. The contrast between this contemporary building and the very mundane building were Hamsun lived for around 10 years in his childhood is food for thought.

In the remote corners of the beautiful, Northern Norwegian landscape you can find this museum of one of Norway's biggest writers of all time. Not only does it have good exhibitions, but the architecture is in itself worth the trip. Also, quite surprisingly for such a small town, the café had really good food, cakes and a wide range of teas. The vegetable pie is especially recommended!

We were lucky to get a tour around the museum, mostly about the architecture and how it relates to Hamsun's literature and the man himself. Very interesting! Close by is the house were Hamsun grew up, and the house where he lived for a few years with his wife Marie. Nice area and nature.

Both the architectural and exhibitions are of high class. Nice little cafe. Well worth the 15-mile detour from E6.

The building is interesting by itself, and it is lots to learn about one of Norway's greatest writers,

The centre has a small bookshop and a quite nice café.
