Joaquin Luna is not really a restaurant, more of a gourmet shop and snack bar, but it’s a wonderful snack bar and a great place to rest your feet while exploring the Roman ruins and the town of Merida. Joaquin Luna is a great place to buy Iberian ham. The front windows and inside walls are lined with hanging hams; the refrigerated display cases are packed with varieties of ham and other Spanish delicacies. They have a few high-top tables in the shop and out in the bricked-over pedestrian street across from the museum of antiquities, and they offer a great lunch deal: 2 raciones (portions -- feeds two people) which included 100 grams of ham, 250 grams of cheese, bread, breadsticks, and 2 drinks for 12€. This was as much as we could eat for lunch. Sitting at the tables in the street let us enjoy the breezes, eat our food, and people-watch. Much better than any fast-food option!
