Salt & Wood Collective
Ranked #6 of 24 Restaurants in Waikanae
Description: We are a BBQ restaurant & Brew pub on the beautiful Kapiti Coast. We use only ethically raised meats & we grow what vegetables we can ourselves. We have a sister bakery down the beach where we source our breads from, and North End beer is brewed onsite. We love giving great service & serving up food & drink that we are proud of. All meat is smoked onsite from our Myron Mixon smoker, our pride & joy. We take bookings for groups of 8 & more. Live music every Saturday from 3pm-6pm. $10 burgers every Tuesday. Nachos & Mexican foods on Monday nights. Pork ribs every Friday night.

Visited last week with a group of 7 workmates for dinner. Service prompt, food pretty quick to come out. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Good selection of drinks. Modern bar/restaurant. Will come again!

We had a large group who had failed to make a booking, They managed to find us seats in two different tables. Great work at Extremely short notice.

We had the couples plate and it was beyond tummy. A change of sides from beans to dirty rice was easily arranged. Everything was very tasty but the brisket especially hit the spot. Gravy as a sauce just wonderful.

Desert ice cream with baileys and coffee outstanding finishing touch.

Highly recommended.

We arrived in Waikanae starving and early for our check in so headed here for lunch - the staff are fantastic friendly efficient and welcoming. The food is simple and elegant and we loved it. We are not drinkers but the beer seems to go down a treat!

After having reviewed this establishment in 2017 in a very favorable light, I visited again recently and was disappointed to find that the fries ( dirty or otherwise) are now skinny Maccas-type chips. Not nearly as nice as more robust morsels of potato. When I asked for a smaller helping of fries for smaller people, I was told no, we don't do that. Also disappointing. Can't do a half portion of fries? Really? That's just silly.
I won't be back for food, but may have a beer there from time to time.

Menu was expected for this type of eatery, nothing exceptional. My Sister had the Pulled Pork, most of it tasteless and inedible. Others had burgers. My wife's burger was good medium rare and juicy. Mine was dry and over cooked. others were average.
The proprietor was gracious enough to apologise and not charge us for the two items we complained about. It is annoying to spend time with family (some who have traveled long distances) in a less than average establishment.

ps. Get rid of the Stag's head, most are over animal trophies.
