This is an abbey that inspired Umberto Eco in his book The Name of the Rose. The foundation of the abbey was set in 966. It is located on Mount Pirchiriano, on the south side of the Val di Susa overlooking the towns of Avigliana and Chiusa di San Michele.
In order to reach Sacra from Turin you need to the take a train from Porta Nuova Railway Station to the station San Ambrogio, a 30 minutes trip. In San Ambrogio you must go to the center at the Restaurant Cappucino and here you should ask for the taxi driver who goes up to the abbey.
There is a taxi driver that can take you up on a road of almost 17 km or/and bring you down from the abbey.
Or from Sant Ambrogio you can climb up by feet through the woods , a trip of aprox 2 hours, on a path with the sign "antica mullatiera".
Up from the abbey the view is breathless, you can see the Alps.
