Don't know much about Michael Collins? Then come here.
A well organised and informative museum to 'the big fella' set in a house where he lived for part of his life.
Small gift shop - no café but 2 minutes walk for the centre of town.
Dear Dom,
Thank you very much for your kind review, we really appreciate it. Glad you enjoyed the tour so much.
Just one little misunderstanding, Collins never lived in this particular property, while we know he lived on Emmet square where the museum is located, we aren't 100% sure exactly which building he lived in.
Please do call into us again sometime.
Yours Sincerely,
Jamie Murphy
This is a real addition to the local history scene. The museum focuses on Clonakilty's part in the 1798 Rising and on Michael Collins. The exhibits are interesting and the information panels well designed. Well worth a visit. My one quibble is that there is not enough done for children to bring the events to life or to engage their continued attention
Dear Dun01170,
Thank you very much for taking the time to review Michael Collins House, We really appreciate the feedback.
Accessibility is one of our main aims here at Michael Collins House so we are disappointed that you believe we don't do enough for kids. Hopefully, in addition to our family activity sheets and interactive displays, the addition of our new audio visual guide on interactive tablets with treasure hunts and more directed at children will lead to a more immersive experience for children on your next visit. You might also keep an eye out for our specific child friendly guided tours and 'Hands on History' events.
Thanks again for your feedback, this constructive criticism helps us see where we can improve and make Michael Collins House the best museum it can be.
Yours Sincerely,
Jamie Murphy
Very good displays but a bit disjointed. More about the whole Irish history rather than about the man himself. There was also quite a lot of duplication in the information. On the whole though, we enjoyed it. Allow about an hour.
Dear Madwitch47,
Thank you very much for your kind review, we really appreciate the feedback. We are delighted to hear you enjoyed your visit to the museum.
I am a little surprised at your comment regarding the tour being disjointed as the layout of the exhibition is almost unanimously praised by our visitors. It is laid out in fairly straightforward chronological order as you go from room to room so I think you may just have taken a wrong turn and as a result.
I would recommend coming back to us again sometime and taking the guided tour. This will clarify things and also illustrate how the narrative of the house through the 1798 Rebellion, Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa and the Fenian movement are important in the Collins story itself to show the foundations of where he came from and what influenced him to become a revolutionary.
Thanks again for your feedback and looking forward to having you visit again at Michael Collins House.
Yours Sincerely,
Jamie Murphy

Delighted to hear that you found the tour so enjoyable and had such a positive experience of Michael Collins House.
At Michael Collins House we do our best not to fall into the trap of the extortionate prices often associated with tourist attractions and similar places. We do our very best to keep our entry prices and the prices in our gift shop reasonable to make the museum accessible and affordable for everyone. Our aim isn't to make profit but to create and maintain an enjoyable and educational experience dedicated to the memory of Michael Collins' and we are delighted that this is something you recognised on your visit.
Please do call back to us again.
Yours Sincerely,
Jamie Murphy
