You could just stroll around and out in 15 minutes but stay a bit longer and look. A lot of love has gone in to this cathedral and it shows in the detail and the way that it is presented to you. Surprised not to find a military chapel area?

Not only is Ripon Cathedral beautiful, visitors are given such warm welcome by the staff and volunteers who are friendly and very knowledgeable. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will certainly return. There are many special events too which we are looking forward to.

We only had an hour in our parking ticket so rushed our visit to this beautiful ancient cathedral. One of the guides joined us and gave us an explanation of why the cathedral is not symmetrical inside. A visit to atmospheric crypt is a must. We spent time reading the memorial plaques. Interestingly one was for a matinee who had circumnavigated the world with Captain Cook. We also admired the modern hand embroidered seat pads round the cathedral depicting the history of Ripon. The staff were very welcoming. We loved finding the misericord that inspired Lewis Carroll to Write Alice in Wonderland. Shame we had to rush it. There was at least another hour of happy wandering.
