“National Trust farmhouse”
Review of Ardress House

Ardress House
Reviewed 6 March 2018

This is a modest farmhouse, very worthwhile visiting. The property is set in the apple county of Armagh, possibly best visited when the apple season is underway.

Accompanied house tour, with farm machinery on display. Farmyard animals present usually only during summer months, (phone ahead, if bringing children). Lady Mile walk, can be muddy and only suitable for walkers, with appropriate footwear.

Sited in the apple orchards of County Armagh, Ardress House is a 17th century house and traditional farmyard set in 100 acres of countryside.

This 17th century, National Trust property offers afternoons of fun and relaxation for all the family with charming woodland with very informative guided walks telling the history of the Apple industry in Co Armagh N ireland. The atmosphere of a working farmyard has been rekindled with the return of small animals, apple pressing into juice and Cider tasting, giving it a character and charm all of its own. Really worth a visit , you won't be disappointed .

We visited Ardress right after the Argory which is just a couple of miles away. We have national trust membership so reviewing this in light of not handing any money over. Ardress was nice, the staff were helpful. We went with a one year old and fed some chickens (although some chickens did not look in great condition). Went up to a toy room where our son was able to run around and play on tractors. We took a walk down to the lady mile but the access was not buggy friendly (staff could have told us this earlier or told us a different way to get to it) so ended up not doing it. We were offered a tour of the house but declined due to our one year old. Animals were nice to view but if able head to the Argory.

The house tour was fascinating, the guide had real charm. The grounds are lovely to as is the farmyard.( some of the hens seemed to have scaly foot and need to be treated)
free to National Trust members

Ardress House is an absolutely delightful property that was enjoyable to visit. The old farmyard complete with freely roaming chickens, pens of goats and old farm equipment oozes with atmosphere of a bygone era. The house tour is not very long but it is surprisingly interesting. The grounds looked very inviting but we didn't have time to walk the Lady's Mile. I'd be very keen to visit when the large apple orchards are being harvested - they add to the charm of the place.
