Being from the Uk, I've grown up on curries. From a very young age it's part of our culture, going out for a curry. A tradition even.

Backpacked Oz years ago and never found a decent curry house. Pleased to say that this has all changed as AANGAN is actually the bomb.

Loved the curries, loved the poppadoms, loved the beer. 10/10

My husband recommended Aangan & he was so right ! - I was delighted to discover the best Indian dishes I have ever eaten in Melbourne. The flavours were exquisite - chicken tikka masala was divine, palak paneer just perfect and our starters of the mixed pakora were crispy, fresh & light, seriously delicious - each mouthful was a joy! We opted for takeaway & I look forward to going back again very soon to try more & eat outside in the courtyard, which had a great ambience, especially on a warm evening! I never write reviews usually but felt compelled to share this recommendation!

Having spent almost two months travelling around Australia and gorging on the Australian food; one tends to crave for Indian food, specially with our group of relatives who are scattered in various parts of the world.

If one has to ask around, the obvious choice by almost everyone we asked was "Aangan". So without further ado, we drove down to their branch at Barkly Street, West Footscray in Melbourne.
Tel. (03)96894175 / (03)93961359

Having arrived there at a reasonable time for dinner, much to our disappointment, we had to wait for a table; the reason being all were occupied. Inspite of the restaurant having a reasonably good seating capacity, we had to wait for around fifteen minutes to get a table for our group of six. The staff nevertheless, found chairs for us till they were able to give us a table.

I do not take this as an inconvenience; but on the contrary as a sign that the restaurant obviously has to be good when one has to wait for a table. It's also a warning that in future, one has to do an advance booking to be able to be seated on time.

Our turn finally came to be seated at a table, with a huge number of take aways already having left the restaurant with their parcels of the goodies on offer.

From the elaborate menu on offer, we decided on ordering three chaat platters to be shared among the six of us. For each platter, we had a choice of three chaats from the menu which comprised of pani puri, dahi bhalla, samosa chaat, papdi chaat, aloo tikis and bhel puri. We thus were able to try all of the chaat items on offer.

We then went ahead and also ordered fish curry with naans and prawn curry with steamed white rice. There was a good quantity of fish and prawns in these curries which were very tasty.

If I have to describe what we ate in just one word, my word would just have to be "scrumptious".

Having partaken in this feast, we were stuffed to the gills. Inspite of which, we were tempted to try out their pista kulfi.

This is one Indian restaurant that I would recommend to anyone who craves for Indian food this side of the world.

The staff were courteous and attentive.
The ambience clean and welcoming.
The cost approximately came to A$ 35
per head.
The food ... obviously 'scrumptious'.

Go try it out, without a second thought.

PS. We were too famished to take more pics.

My wife and I have been here on numerous occasions so we thought we better write a review.

We have two Indian restaurants that we frequent, and Aangan is just ahead in food quality and service, the other one, whilst closer to home let us down on the service side.

We have always booked as it does get very busy on Friday's and especially Saturdays. Staff are always welcoming and hard working trying to ensure your food arrives in the order requested.

The variety and quality of the food is amazing and the Dosa's are great, they are by far the best anywhere. All the curries are a perfect consistency, not that watery or overly thick you do get sometimes in other restaurants. And to boot, it is great value for money.

We have taken a lot of our friends, most being non-Indian food eaters, who have come out raving about the food. Most say, "Wow, we never thought Indian food would be so tasty"

Seriously, if you haven't been, and you like Indian food (mainly Northern Indian), then you must give it a go.
