We went here for lunch on Boxing Day. We sat outside as it was a beautiful sunny day. There was no table service per se- you order inside both meals and drinks. We were fortunate enough to have a young lady bring us water as well as the drinks we ordered- because they weren’t busy she said. All our meals arrived in a timely fashion, bar one which was completed not what we ordered but they did correct and ordered meal arrived soon after. All very tasty and filling, although there was a 10% surcharge being a public holiday! None of this sounds too difficult or taxing- neither for patron or restaurant, however, if you, like me sometimes can read between the lines, I’d say this business is under stress. The lack of table service when clearly they could do this when not busy, the added surcharge when this is clearly a small operation, the passing of the buck when drinks were ordered and the lack of patrons on what should be a really busy day- other locations in the area bustling with business same day- suggests that this place may need to rethink their game a little, perhaps staff need a rest, perhaps place needs a re set. I may have eaten the ploughman lunch but this place feels like they’re ploughing through some tough times. My recommendation/ go while the Pig and Whistle is still in the Stye.
