Ate here last night and went for the 6 course tasting menu with matching wines. My wife is a pescatarian and she mentioned this when making the reservation so the chef had planned a fish based alternative to the standard tasting menu. The food - perfectly executed dishes based on local ingredients- service, selection of wines were all excellent and I couldn’t recommend this enough for a special occasion. It’s pricey but in line with what you would expect for the quality on offer and clearly this restaurant and chef are destined for highly deserved recognition by Michelin very soon.
Will definitely come back here next time we’re in the Lake District.

Managed to get a reservation on the same day and so glad we did. The location of the restaurant is fabulous with the views from the table towards the hills amazing.
We ate from the a la carte menu. Starters were a fresh tasting asparagus dish and an amazing rabbit dish which was packed with flavour and beautifully presented. We both then had duck - breast and slow cooked leg, again very good and a fitting end with chocolate and pear desserts.
The food is expertly cooked and presented and at £45 for 3 courses offers excellent value, and there is a decent selection of wines to choose from.

The welcome and attention from the team felt genuinely friendly and warm - like visiting someone’s house.

A dining experience that went beyond our expectations and we have already booked our return visit!

Went with my wife for a meal to celebrate our anniversary. We both had the tasting menu and they made my wife a pescatarian version with no extra fuss. Each course was spot on and they had a great selection of wine and cocktails. Would highly recommend, welcoming staff.

We eloped to get married last week in the Lake District and we are so glad we chose your restaurant to have our lunch on the big day. We will never forget it and really appreciated the complementary glass of bubbly when we arrived and the little sign on our table welcoming us as Mr & Mrs ..... Every part of the meal was absolutely fantastic, the flavours amazing! The surroundings and service were perfect and we couldn't have wished for more.

Thank you so much!

We've left another review about the rest of our stay at The Cottage but wanted to add to what we've written specifically for the restaurant.

Having eaten three breakfasts and three dinners, we feel qualified to comment on the experience. And what a positive one it was too!

The staff for both breakfast and dinner are excellent, nothing is too much trouble and they are happy to offer advice, suggest alternatives or just generally spoil you with great service.

The food is amazing and you will be treated to local ingredients that work perfectly with each other, both from a taste and visual perspective, the result of can only be described as art. Each course perfectly complements the previous, building the experience of what is a culinary journey that head chef Rich Collingwood and the rest of the team at The Cottage should be very proud of as they've achieved something very rare.

Complementing the food is an excellent wine list, the 2003 Margaux was spectacular or if you prefer, a wine can be recommended for each of the courses.

Some may wince at the prices but you won't get much better than this in the UK and at a fraction of the price of what you'd have to pay in a Michelin restaurant. Between the two of us we enjoyed 30 courses over the three nights and there wasn't anything we would change or didn't enjoy.

Please support UK fine dining and try this special restaurant.
