The Wardlaw Mausoleum was an unexpected find and Freja the young tour guide was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Many historically interesting characters from the Fraser family are connected with the Mausoleum and local area. Entering the crypt and seeing the lead coffins was eerie and fascinating. We were also given the opportunity to climb the bell tower and ring the bell which was a new and memorable experience. Although a small attraction it costs nothing to visit and indulge in the local history, ofcourse a generous donation should be considered to help with the upkeep and

It is a beautiful place with an interesting history!

Freja, a volunteer at the place, showed us around. She was extremely knowledgeable recounting the entire story of the place, the old fox, and his family, answering all our questions in depth. Her engaging manner and passion for the place made it so that we couldn’t help but fall for the fascinating story. We’ll definitely be keeping our ears out for more news about the whereabouts of the old fox’s remains.

After the tour, we were allowed to climb the bell-tower and ring the bell which was great fun as well.

It is without question worth a visit!

We were fortunate to meet Erik and his pal Buster during a private tour. The history was fascinating and when we were offered an invitation to entry the Crypt I walked right down the stairs. I had NO IDEA what a true Crypt was and one of the visible coffins had been opened with a tarp laying over it. It was a memorable albeit creepy moment. The location is beautiful and from there we traveled to St. Mary's Eskdale Chapel.

Set in a well kept cemetery in Kirkhill this interesting mausoleum attracts quite a few visitors. set quarter of a mile from the main road it is a quiet restful resting place . With quite a history to it . The interest mainly coming from foreign tourists who have followed the Outlander series on the tele .

Infamous Simon Fraser's burial place. Lovely quiet cemetery and resting place for hundreds of Clan Fraser decendants. A nice off the beaten path place to experience history.
