This gem of a place nestled at the top of a hill overlooking a stunning bay of Vasto Marina. An abundance of quality restaurants is readily available to you. But the real find is the old, Historic Italy; cobbled streets, tiny walkways, renovated houses mixed with the ancient. Places to just sit and absorb your surrounding's and submerge yourself in what could be an original Italian film set. A great place for families with an abundance of ice-cream parlours and sweet shops! Many café bars to take in the atmosphere. Please note this is a traditional Italian town steeped in history and all Italians, be prepared not many locals speak English so bring that translation aid, it will come in useful. The only downfall is taxis are not that common in the area but good public transport services.

This coastal Adriatic city is a delightful surprise. The city is filled with history. It is actually divided into a city scape which sits atop looking over the Adriatic city and on clear days you can see the Tremiti Islands. Filled with wonderful small shops, churches and great restaurants known for their fresh seafood. Below sits Vasto Beach, with miles of surgery sand and a relaxed beach town feel. The city center does not allow cars, so you can enjoy your strolls, but municipal parking is easily accessible.

Many shops and restaurants. Just take your time and wander around. Get lost. You will have fun exploring the center of this old city.

The historic center of Vasto has Roman origins and has kept many traces of its medieval and later eras.
In our visit we first stopped to admire Piazza Rossetti where you have the Caldoresco Castle, ruins of a past era, nice buildings and a monument dedicated to Gabriele Rossetti - poet, revolutionary and scholar who was born in Vasto in 1783 and died in London, England in 1854. From the piazza there are a number of little streets that are enjoyable to walk leading to the belvedere (next to the Avalos Palace) where you have a stunning view of the beach in Vasto marina and beyond that make for a great
photo op. Close by you have another photo op popular with tourists and that is the coloured staircase close to the house where Vasto's favourite Gabriele Rossetti lived.
Along the way you can see the Vasto cathedral (San Giuseppe) and the church of Santa Maria Maggiore (largest and oldest with a tall bell tower).
The area is dotted with cute bars, cafés and restaurants - the ones on the belvedere street provide an amazing view of the sea and the countryside.
This was truly a magical visit enhanced by the sunny and warm weather that we were blessed with that day.

We stayed in a small house in Vasto for two weeks and it is a great little historic centre with 4 or 5 churches and 1 cathedral .There are several shops and not the usual tourist "tut" and it's great for photo's and people watching especially at night when people and whole families stroll around chatting.
