We just spent a week here, having found a good deal flying from Bournemouth. Thomson Small and Friendly family run hotel several miles outside Sorrento on a very busy road and the brochure photo showed an old villa so we weren't expecting luxury. Just as well, as the room was distinctly shabby, as was the whole building. We paid extra for a sea view of the Bay of Naples and especially Capri. Half board, with meals across the dangerous road in the family restaurant. Limited menu for Thomson guests in the evening but good food and amazing views of the bay and islands. Dinner served under silver coloured metal domes rather pretentiously. Breakfast good continental fare with fresh cherries but the world's worst plastic wrapped cheese. Views from the roof and garden terraces spectacular, especially at sunset. Hotel service very patchy, sometimes friendly, other times not. Pleased to have been there to enjoy the incredible views but next time we'll get a more central and comfortable hotel. Just as well, as this is Thomson last year at this hotel...

First let me say that we had a lovely weeks stay at this guest house mainly due to the amazing view we were lucky to have in room 113.This balcony was huge and apart from being dirty(tiled floor never mopped) was the focus of our room. The room itself was kept clean with fresh towels and bed linen changed. There is a very hard working maid who is very nice. When we first saw the room our hearts sank but compared to other guests rooms it was a palace so we soon cheered up.As every other reviewer states it is on a very noisy busy and dangerous road with no pavements and crossing it is a challenging game of chicken.local bus stop is right outside into sorrento so that's the good news. The food was fair.I like Pasta which was always good but my friend who likes soup was served up some very odd concoctions. The management was polite when spoken to but I am glad I had no problems. It reminded me of travelling in the early 70's when foreign travel was an adventure and delapidated accomodation par for the course. We enjoyed ourselves but unlike many of the guests who had been there many times we would not return. It is a great base for the many amazing places to visit but there are more convenient hotels small and grand. We got a great deal here but the area is very expensive and if you like a drink and plenty of food it's probably best to go all inclusive as you will spend lots of money anyway.take a travel kettle for tea and coffee and keep you own tipple of choice in your room,is my advice.

Room tip: Get a sea view with balcony if possible.

We booked the Villa Pina hotel as my mum had stayed there several years before and enjoyed it. Unfortunately standards there seem to have slipped and the place could do with renovation and a through clean. The rooms are across the road from the restaurant which is ok but you do have to be careful crossing as its near to a bend and Italians dont seem to have a problem overtaking on them! I definitely wouldnt recommend for a family as it would be too dangerous. The room itself was small but clean enough and also very basic. No fridge, tea / coffee making facilities. The TV is old and only Italian shows. Not that we were there for watching TV but there was a thunderstorm and we were stuck in our room for half a day so just read until it was dry enough to go out. We had a problem with the plumbing in the bathroom which took 3 days to fix and was torture to sleep. No apologies at all or offer of a move of room. When my mother last visited the restaurant had lots of pastries that mama made and you could help yourself. There was still a pile of pastries but you now have to pay. We asked for a banana from the fruit tray there and they added €1 each to our bill. The food in the restaurant is very nice with a 3 course menu for those half board. This gave a couple of options to choose from. I cant fault the food. The waiters were also very friendly and helpful. The hotel is also a distance from Sorrento so you need to catch a bus. The bus service is a bit irregular so you can go out for a bus as per the timetable and it may or may not turn up. The other problem with the hotel is that there is nothing nearby so if you are half board and stay for your meal in the evening there are no other bars nearby to sit at. We bought a bottle of wine to drink from the restaurant roof terrace but its a shame they dont make more of that. There are tables and chairs but they are in poor condition. The views are to die for though. I definitely wouldn't recommend this hotel. The owners arent friendly and its quite hard work getting them to be helpful. I was very disappointed mainly for mum as she had fond memories of the last time she stayed. The hotel would be fine if you have a car to get to Sorrento or Massa Lubrense and if you are just using as a base.

This quirky, inimitable jewel of a hotel was absolutely everything you could want from a relaxed, sundrenched holiday in one of the most beautiful places on earth. The view from our balcony could not have been better - Capri, the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius. Brilliant! Thanks to Franchesco, Firminia and Angelo for making this such a wonderful, unforgettable holiday. I hope to return someday.

Room tip: if possible, ask for room above the restaurant for the best views and a balcony

The room was spotless and the staff at the villa pina made us feel like part of the family. The views and the food were fantastic. I went with my daughter and the staff could not do enough for us. We will be coming back again, it is like a lovely retreat. The only let down for this hotel was the Thomson reps, the customer service and manner was terrible. I feel that they let this hotel down by their lack of communication and customer service. We met many people that go back year after year to this hotel. So, to the people that are complaining, why do you complain? I have travelled all over the world and this place is in the tip 5 to go. Thanks to all at the villa Pina for your hospitality and see you next year.

Room tip: rooms at the back are quieter, i had a sea view.
