I first set foot on Isola Del Giglio, as a three year old in 1965. I returned with my family ever year for the next 15 years, and then as a young adult. I learned my basic Italian here, as well as scuba diving, and the art of seduction. Giglio was the paradise of my youth. Returning after 28 years, I have found the island to be for the most part, in much better condition than I expected, and not at all ruined by the advance of mass tourism. Giglio Porto is super cute, full of bars and restaurants, for the most part extremely good. You can enjoy boat trips to rocks, beaches, including the caribbean white Le Cannelle, or take a trip the the saracen fortress on the top of the Island, known as the Castello. Beyond this, there are cool pine forests where trekkers can walk all across the wilder reaches of the small island. The sea is crystal clear, and the land is ruggedly beautiful. The holiday style is simple and easy going. If you do go, please respect it for this reason. Enjoy (but probably not in August) !

What a quiet restful island. We stayed in a little apartment in the Castello which is on a mountain top on the island. This provides cool evenings with a wonderful view and great sunset dining. A trip to the various beach attractions is a 2 Euro bus ride that runs well into the night. A perfect combination of Tuscan hill town and a beach.

You cannot fault this little island, it is worth visiting and enjoy a really relaxing holiday.
Nothing there is overly expensive, their is a wide and plentiful choice of restaurants, bars, caffe's.... Sit back and relax...

Small island, innexpensive, great beaches, good swimming spots, quaint little small port... Although small, the island has much to offer.

You can catch a ferry from Monte Argentario or rent a boat and go on your own. Renting a boat gives you the flexibility to visit secluded swimming spots.

The island is about a 2 hour car / train ride from Rome. It can and does get crowded in August. Also, if you chose to arrive in Monte Argentario by car, there are plenty of private parking spots where you can leave your car for a very reasonable fee.

We took a boat ride from Porto San Stefano to Porto Giglio. We were there for a few hours and our visit was absolutely worth it. Swimming in the beautiful waters among small fish and enjoying the beautiful weather made it an unforgetable experience.
