We took a boat ride from Porto San Stefano to Porto Giglio. We were there for a few hours and our visit was absolutely worth it. Swimming in the beautiful waters among small fish and enjoying the beautiful weather made it an unforgetable experience.

Staying up in the Castello is cool and breezy, no air conditioning required. The people are friendly and helpful with breakfast bars for morning coffee, delis for packing a lunch and frequent bus service to the port and beaches.

Isola del Giglio is a beautiful small island with nice views, beaches, waters, restaurants. The journey by sea from San Stefano port to the island is also a good experience.

Unfortunately we were there only for a couple of hours, so we did not manage to see much. Therefore I suggest a half day trip at least to be able to enjoy this place.

It was a hot dry June day when we arrived on the small and delightful island off the Tuscan coast. After wandering through the small shops along the street skirting the port, and before going to the beach, we were hungry. After reading the Trip Advisor reviews, especially the comments, we selected La Margherita, and were very pleased. It was early for lunch, the staff were eating, but we were immediately given a friendly welcome and seated at the table of our choice, in a corner of the spacious and cool dining room overlooking the picturesque boats and gregarious seagulls. Lunch was magnificent: delicious, pleasingly presented, generous portions, fairly priced. Between the three of us we enjoyed the mixed seafood antipasto, the mixed seafood grill, the grilled calimari and the mixed seafood pasta. Fresh and fabulous! Very pleasant local white wine. While my wife and 11-year-old were changing into swim suits in the bathroom, the proprietess came to the table to ask about our meal and we spoke for a few minutes. A gracious woman of some years, she said she has worked since a young girl in this family business. Service was superb, friendly and attentive from start to finish. We are looking forward to our next visit in July!

This island is gorgeous and crisscrossed with lovely trails. Just rent a scooter when you get there and you are free to explore. It seems there are several places (near the castle) designed for short term rental, with laundry - perfect for hikers! And DO go to Ristorante Di Santi while you are here (it would be a crime to miss it.)
