Description: Portofino was opened at 18:15 on the 19th November 2010, as the Island's most prestigious Mediterranean and International restaurant. Dominating the Quay West development, centrally located in the Isle of Man's capital Douglas, Portofino enjoys spectacular views overlooking the marina, with activity of the street outside, visible through floor to ceiling windows. The grill, fish, poultry, meat and vegetables are prepared in full view of diners at the surrounding kitchen. During summer, outside tables are available for dinning. Portafino's interior was designed by Sicilian owner Mario Ciapelli. Its interior is complemented by high-back leather chairs, a modern cocktail serving bar and contemporary lighting throughout to provide a luxury and modern yet comfortable enviroment for diners. The restaurant also provides diners with the option to book the Xander Suite, a private dining room which can accommodate up to 30 guests.

We were here as a big party for a large celebration and pre-ordered our food (which always causes problems remembering what one orders) but the staff weren't very patience with us as we tried to sort out which meal was who's - this was partly down to being on a such a large table and communications across it was difficult. The host was very good with us and treated us very well. There was unfortunately flooding in the basement of the place, which is where we were going to eat in a private room, but instead we had to then be in the main part of the restaurant which was another reason for the aforementioned problem.
The food here was just delicious. I believe the menu could have been more varied and a few more vegetarian options. Also the restaurant wasn't very wheelchair accessible. But overall, it was a very enjoyable meal and suitable for the event.

Visit this gem on an annual basis when I visit the island. Loved the scallops Thermidor. Goats cheese soufflé was divine. An over cooked steak was swiftly dealt with and not charged for. Baileys creme brûlée was too die for.

The room is nice, bright, enough space between tables, which are large enough.

Seated, offered drinks and menu. Order taken promptly.

Onion soup was almost stew consistency, king scallops with black pudding came with a cream sauce into which the pudding had dissolved. Odd texture.

Mains very good. Dover Sole, off the bone, and lobster grilled in garlic butter. Sides of asparagus and tomato and red onion salad.

Good Italian white wine. Nice desert wine with the cheesecake.

Pleasant evening. No background music, and because of the room design, and space between the tables, the background noise from chatter is a low hum and not obtrusive.

We have visited “Portafino” twice in a week, the first for a Birthday ,a table of four, excellent in every way service, food, ambience and welcome, the second for a function, normally you would expect a function to be slightly off the boil, with service a little slower, and food perhaps a little rushed but this was not so, from the moment we entered the restaurant we were made to feel special, the service was as usual exceptional and the meal absolutely perfect served efficiently and on hot plates( something I feel strongly about ) the meal was 5star quality at reasonable prices , choice of wines and champagne with pairing advice offered,
If you want something special and to be made to feel special this is the place to be .
