This nature reserve is a bit off the beaten track but that just makes it that much more special. The facilities are excellent and very well kept. Regrettably the cafe was closed on our day of visit but we were told the bacon butties are the best ! On arrival we were met by Margaret who explained things to us and asked if there was anything we specifically wanted to see. We particularly wanted to see Kingfisher and Marsh Harrier. Margaret explained the best parts of the reserve to see these two and described the rest of the reserve. Very peaceful, tranquil place with lots of well constructed hides dotted around the various lagoons and well marked trails through a variety of woodland habitats. A great place for the family to spend a whole day enjoying nature. Fantastic place and we saw Kingfisher and Marsh Harrier !

Our first visit since lockdown and its still beautiful. There are now 2 one way routes ,one around each of the reservoirs, though beware as some people are not obeying the directions and we came face-face with people walking against the arrows. There is plenty of birdlife in a mixture of woodland, marsh and the reservoirs. There is a lovely garden café (Twitchers) with access from the car park Wednesday-Sunday with a good range of drinks, cakes, sandwiches and bacon rolls, including gluten free cakes, there is a also a very talkative cat who will great you.

Very pleasant, shady walks and plenty of hides to observe the birdlife and the scenery in general. There's also an excellent cafe in operation during part of the week. A great venue for ornithologists and nature lovers.

There is much to do in this place, it is quite out of the way, around 4-5 miles from the nearest village and shops, but worth coming to have a walk around. In the winter, you may require a pair of decent boots/walking shoes, but if you enjoy nature reserves and something a bit different with Yorkshire fresh air then this could be a most enjoy place to pass an hour or 3

Well organised reserve. Good parking and access to toilets. Great hides. I found the other visitors friendly and very willing to share their knowledge. Great place for birds as well as plants including fungi. Mammals - deer, fox and otter. Marsh frogs. Well worth a visit and repeat visits.
