Three night stay to revisit old haunts with friends who had never been to this area before. The location of this wonderful old coaching inn is in a prime position, but there it ends. So disappointed this lovely old building has been sadly neglected. It was tired and rundown mainly due to lack of investment in the upkeep and maintenance. Room large and spacious, bed comfortable, but choose not to check the mattress for obvious reasons. (First impressions going a long way). Radiator not working, but on back reading reviews this problem has been on going since last year. Portable heaters supplied which in turn blew the extension lead which partly melted . This was replaced with another similar lead which in turn we did not use for the heater for safety fears. This extension lead was situated just a few inches above a recent flood in the room from an adjoining bathroom leaving a sodden wet area of carpet to avoid. Housekeeping was sloppy and towels not changed or could be dried as heated rail in bathroom not working either. Shower pathetic, just a mere drizzle. No bath mat supplied in an otherwise slippery bath. Yet, another danger zone. Breakfasts no problem with, plenty of choice and served by a friendly and cheerful member of staff. Evening meals expensive and not of good quality considering the price. Choose not to eat another. We consider this a fair review based on our experience. Would not return or recommend.

We have just spent 6 lovely days at the whipper inn. Arrived on 23rd, when an hour later, Boris made his announcement, but Oakham stayed in tier 2, so we were able to stay for the whole break.
The staff were exceptional in every way and nothing was too much trouble. We felt like VIPS.
The food was excellent and a really good menu choice. The menu on Christmas day was excellent and the table was very festive.
The room was good and again housekeeping were happy to help with any request.
A big thank you to Manager and his team.
We hope to return in the spring, if we aren't in lockdown.
The hotel has such character.

Big spacious room (executive double); clean and comfortable; very dog friendly; competent and helpful staff; delicious food (room service). Nice old historic building. Centrally located with a free car park a few meters from the entrance to the outside seating area.

Dear NickMartineFlek

We are delighted to read that you had such a wonderful break away and that all the team at the Whipper-In looked after you so well.
We are always very happy to welcome pets. In fact, my own beautiful black Labrador was born locally and loves visiting the Whipper and Rutland Water too.
The chicken curry has become a great favourite with many of our residents and diners and Chef will be very pleased to read your kind words today.
Meanwhile , please stay safe and well and we look forward to welcoming you back again in the New Year.

Happy New Year for 2021 from all the team.

We stayed at the Whipper Inn with our 2 small dogs and from our arrival to our departure, 3 weeks later, we were looked after extremely well. The staff in particular, Manoj, Tom and Lamin were exceptional and the housekeeper immaculate in her work paying attention to detail. The Whipper Inn is steeped in history and although some refurbishment is required the hotel is priced accordingly and is a jewel in Oakham's crown. We look forward to many visits to Oakham's Whipper Inn. Thank you all again for accommodating us.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Whipper Inn in Oakham. It’s centrally located with cooperative staff, excellent ambience & fantastic food. After arriving quite late in the evening, we were greeted warmly by the manager and promptly given the keys to our room. The room itself was spacious with all the necessary amenities and very clean, making it a comfortable stay. The bed was just so comfy; it was like sleeping on a cloud.

The next morning, we went down for breakfast and was served by Tom, who quickly got our orders efficiently. He was also a great help during our stay - an asset to the hotel team. The breakfast was great, especially the full English which had a generous portion of everything. In the evening, we decided to have dinner at the Whipper and I must say, the Supperbox menu is superb with a variety of choices, able to cater to all tastebuds - definitely recommend! I had the Whipper chicken curry and it has to be one of the best curries I’ve had in a while!

Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would 100% stay here again.
